Especially the parts that sound like they are banging on a big bucket with delay and reverb.
gotta start testing different buckets
get a 909
Sample them.
I can find a single instance in the trillion versions of the song Ive listened to where the banging buckets are isolated. The hats are always in the background
it sounds like a big plastic bucket with a notch filter
I always wondered how that percussion was created as well. Sounds massive.
delay & reverb on the 909 kick?
I’d imagine so…
i’m not saying it’s this at all but it sounds like a percussion would make with some Yamaha VL synthesis

Get their 909.
They said there’s sounded different to all the others. Kind of agree!
I always though it sounds like a snare not a bucket…
not much info here but it is a 909… so that plus reverb I guess and saturation…
I always thought a delay effect was somehow involved, but I’m not so sure listening to it right now.
…underworld…the only rockband to find in all those techno acts…
Edit - this post originally said that Underworld used some loops from a sample CD by Best Service but following some discussion in this thread it’s looking more like the CD/Underworld sampled the same source materials for various breaks so I think I’m completely 100% wrong, sorry about that. The CD in question was called Best Service - Dance Mega Jungle Rave and this post previously linked to an Internet Archive page but @jdaddyaz has a much better archive, if you’re interested to look through it see below.
I’ll be serious for a bit. To me the bucket sounds remind me of anything typically labeled “tekno tom”, “elektro tom”, “digital tom”, “industrial tom”, or shit like that in drum machines and sample libraries. Shit from Kawai, Yamaha, and Akai.
this es the type of post I love this forum for.
thanks for sharing the knowledge kind friend.
Thanks. Not sure why but surprised about this
