How do you mark cables?

I wanna mark my cables because i often lose dome in festivals or concerts.

Ideally I 'd like to find colour coded option. I tried several colour tapes bought on Thomann but they never stick for long especially in hot or humid weather.

Any recommendation for something durable?

I’ve seen people use dental instrument rings. Pretty cheap on Amazon.

Electric tape.

I haven’t marked any cables for a while, but back then I used such scheme:

  • blue/red for stereo
  • white/black stripes as binary numbers, like black is 0, and white is 1. then white-white-black-white is cable number 13

Even permanent markers washing out when you write on cables. And numbers much easier to repurpose than text labels.
Electric tape is cheap, you can cut it by hands, you can keep all 4 colours in your case and refresh/sign new cables as needed.

colored cable ties.

I rub them on me to mark it with my scent.

A bit of masking or electrical tape made into a tag per cable, with what it does and where it goes (plus what voltage / polarity for PSUs) written on in biro.

At least, you don’t pee on them.

You could use little pieces of fabric attached on them (double node). Everybody has old t-shirts. No cost.

That’s what kittens / puppies are for, isn’t it?

I’ve got some of these cable labels. They’re only paper so could get ripped but you can also get more expensive velcro ones

I count knots along the cable and keep a spreadsheet

Or some other white paint marker. TBH it’s not durable unless you put it on a spot that isn’t going to be rubbed. It’s still a useful thing to have for labelling things though.

No, my cables mostly smell like beer and pizza, that’s how I know they’re mine.

Back when I played out a lot I used purple electrical tape. Even just to differentiate from my other band members. Now for extension cords and tools on the job site, I use spray paint.

Color velcro ? I used those kind of stuff and it works pretty nice for me.
I hate glue residual on cables so stickers and electric tape beurk nope

There’s a lot of color scheme so you can have a pretty high numbers of colors
and you can cut those if you don’t need to turn x. times to attach your cables

We use that in datacenters too. Works great.

I would say get colours in your life or ask some friends to donate some t-shirts.

My favorite thing about wearing black wool t-shirts is when people ask me for a cappuccino at restaurants.

I need to get one of those European portable credit card machines.
