How could I set the filter effect on the master channel?

Hey,

I am new to Elektron gear and I could not figure out from the OT manual how I can set the filter effect on the master channel.

Is this only possible via routing the master audio into one of the 8 tracks and setting the filter there? If so, what are the steps for doing this?

You can use Track 8 as a Master BUS

There’s no master channel except to condemned Track 8 and use it as a Master Bus THEN you can use it as a send/return… (kind of) with FX you want.

That’s the last reply i made to you for general question… If you have a problem like you stuck on something with the operator manual near you and you can’t figure out WE ARE HERE… But don’t be lazy you won’t mastering the OT without to read the Manual. I recommend to PRINT it as we all did

I have the manual next to me. I looked at a number of parts of it before I asked. I also tried to look this up.

I also have a general tech background [in software development].

Please understand that the power x functionality of the OT is overwhelming for beginners. We will all get there [if we keep trying]. But please be patient with us.

No frustration there @cryptoambiance just there’s so much people out there who asking question without opening the quick start manual you know … I will not read that full manual because it’s very huge… (i’m french btw so i can express myself with a bit of clumsiness !)

I would like to point that reading manual is so important to master the OT especially the OT there’s no way around to squiz that part.

I read the Merlin guide.

And am now watching tutorials. I also read parts of the manual. For many people learning works best with a combination of:

• video
• manual
• trial + error
• somebody available to answer questions

This gave me the idea that I might be best off hiring somebody in Berlin to give me a 1-2 tutorial [to expedite the process]. Would the general Elektron - Octatrack forum would be a good place to look for someone like this or do you think it’s better to try somewhere else [Elektron FB + another forum]?

If by “master channel” you mean “master track”, so that the filter would affect all the audio tracks of the OT, then do the following:

In the PROJECT > CONTROL > AUDIO menu, set the function of Track 8 to be “Master” (page 36 of the manual). Exit the menus.

Select audio track 8 on the OT (which is now your master track), choose either Effect 1 or Effect 2 (page 74 of the manual) and select the FILTER effect. The filter main parameters and setup parameters are listed on page B-2 of the manual.

Let us know whether that works or whether you have any problems with any stage of the process.

(Make your thread choose a good title) general Elektron - Octatrack
Make sure the guy you hire play Live with his Octatrack since at least months, otherwise there people with the OT on their desk taking more dust than tweak and delivered sounds so pay attention choose carefully

Or you can ask them to give you hints on elektronauts you can trust on their skills

Elektronauts is the ‘official’ forum for Elektron users and you are always welcome to ask questions here. No doubt there are many helpful people on Facebook. In neither case do you have to pay anything for asking for any kind of help!

I would add that Master Track acts more like an insert effect instead of a send/return.

It’s possible to filter only cued tracks with a Cue Recorder.

Sorry I missed you’re question. I meant use a Recorder, select Src3 = Cue, and play the Recording with a Flex Machine.

Good idea.

In that case, you use a Cue Recorder with an associated REcording Flex track as a PRE SEND/RETURN effect.
