Although this is right up my alley, I am not going to make it this time. I won’t be cooking anything, since we don’t have a kitchen right now and all my spare time is dedicated to preparing and installing the new one
Looking forward to what you geniuses can do premo-style!
@Jedilicious sorry to hear you can’t take part fella happy to extend the date if you need it.
Also just to clarify… this isn’t a Premo style beat battle, the track is only there to show the format of the beat expected, you can make the beats in any style you choose.
What is expected is three mini beats and at least one must have an acapella verse over it and the speak your clout track is just to give an idea.
i totally forgot i got tagged in here, this looks like it will result in some dope tracks. i will tentatively try to participate, we’ll see if i can make it happen in time
No rush fellas… Sad to say ive not had one entry, so I’ll extend it by a week and if we don’t get many by then it might be worth abandoning it and maybe trying something else that everyone is into.
I must say I didn’t enter as it was a bit complex for me
To add a bit more detail it looks like a really cool challenge, but I don’t really know anything about hip hop genre’s etc so when it’s about a specific era or genre I usually don’t participate in those ones.
That’s not to say those should be avoided. At the moment weekly beats is taking up all my music making time and more so I can only really make stuff that doesn’t require uncleared samples.
Hi @Yabba - when I came back online after Easter I was so excited to see the battle you and Doug setup here. I love that Gangstarr track and always loved the DITC crew (I had no idea they produced so many tracks for other people!)…
And then there is the execution -
it’s been an enlightening journey so far, it’s challenging me to transform how I approach making music to be honest!
I’m going to finish the works I’ve started here and will submit it soon.
Thanks for the extension @Yabba! I had started something but still need to finish it up! (Thought the deadline was this weekend, my bad…) with the extra week i’ll send something in before next saturday!
i started something as well, just have to buckle down and work on the vocal aspect. think im just gonna bite the bullet and use ableton, i still wanna see what others got up to!
sheesh acapellas are a challenge to work with for me. when yall are intending on using acapellas do you pick the one you want to use first and then shape your beat around it? i never start that way and always end up trying to cram some vocals in where they really dont belong. or i just scroll through a big selection of acapellas near my beats tempo and see what works best, but that doesnt totally work for these kind of challenges.
I always end up trying to add acapella’s after I finish the beat but its often hit or miss. somehow I often have to cut up and move the vocals around a bit to match the beat even if the bpm is right.
Not sure if useful when doing ITB stuff, but a trick from my days when I used to DJ a bit was to first beatmatch the instrumental version of the acapella you want to use. Easier to get the timing locked in, listening for if the snares start to drift apart.
That 88 bpm song might not be exactly 88.00000 bpm so lining up the tracks first might save some cuts and nudges.
For this challenge Im using mostly OT and once i had a few basic ideas went through some potential raps and sampled a couple bars into a free track. Was good to have some voice while finishing the beat for tonal/groove/composition decisions, but sometimes used vocals from a different part of the song in the end.
Completely redid one of the beat parts this weekend and need to track some shit out and figure out the switches but will get something in
