Ive finally got me rack and cables together and they lost my original package with the correct cables ('1/4 to 1/8) I only have the normal patch cables. How the hell am I going to use them with the A4? Someone said just use an adaptor - I have 2 but theyre balanced (does that matter? I would think so as its not a like for like connection).
So Instead of plugging it all in and seeing how I go Id much rather know Im not going to blow up thousands in equipment!!
Not sure what ‘correct’ cables you lost, but 1/4 stereo to 1/8 mono cables are pretty difficult to find, in my experience. I spent months looking for some, and in the end I gave up and just got some 1/8 stereo to 1/8 mono (Y) cables and some 1/4 to 1/8 adapters. I think that’s the easiest and cheapest option, and they work great.
In the meantime, if you don’t have any of those, you can try those adaptors you have, with normal patch cables, but that would only get you 2 CV’s out of the A4. Nothing is going to blow, don’t worry. The A4 cannot send enough power through the CV’s to blow most Eurorack (I’m assuming it’s Eurorack, right?), unless you deliberately send a 10v to a very sensitive module that has warnings all over the manual, that it will only accept 5v or less (pretty rare these days, can’t think of any).
As for sending the audio from a modular through the A4, the A4 inputs can deal with some hot signals, but it’s good practise to convert them to line levels before you send them out of your modular, into the A4. An output module is recommended, but some people don’t mind.
