Help syncing moog sub 37 with Logic X

Hello everyone,

If someone call help me figure out what I’m doing wrong here I’d really appreciate it. I think what I’m trying to do is probably fairly simple and standard, but without much keyboard experience, I’m lost. I’ve spent many hours searching help topics and forums, but so far solving one problem seems to create others. Yep, I’m normally the drummer…

I have a Moog Sub 37, a Mac running Logic 10 and a midi interface. I have both USB as well as Midi In and Out cables.

What I’d like to achieve is this:

  1. I’d like the tempo in logic to control the speed of my arpeggiator in the Moog. I did achieve this briefly, however I’ve been unable to repeat it since while trying to solve the next problem.

  2. I’d like the arpeggiator in the Moog to start playing when I press on the Moog keys, and stop playing when I’m not playing them. Oddly turning off the lock buttons doesn’t seem to affect this, but rather whenever logic is playing/recording the arpeggiator is suddenly activated.

3). Once I accomplish the above two, I’d like to be able to record myself in logic playing the Moog (using the Moog’s internal sounds) and fiddling with the oscillators, etc, and have this all recorded as midi data that I can then edit in logic after (is that possible?)

The problems that I’ve encountered are bizarre, making me think I either have a software or hardware problem, or the user is next to hopeless with this stuff. I had the tempo synced briefly, but no midi data would record in Logic, the arpeggiator would keep playing endlessly, or if I did manage to record midi data, I’d get silence on playback. I’ve also had the sound suddenly change when I press record in logic, or logic record a whole whack of midi data without my having pressed a key on the Moog. It’s been quite frustrating.

I realize I’m asking a lot here, but any suggestions other than “put it all back in the box and return it to the store” would be a god-send.

Many thanks,

Andy

The problem is you’re using the wrong hardware. If you sell your moog and computer, you can buy an Analog Rytm.

Do you have the right midi chanels in logic and moog ? Does logic send midiclock ? At moog arpergiator: sync is on ? Do you have a midi loop ? Did you try other midi cables ? Doo you have a midi filter / transformer in logic ? I think in sub 37 is something like testmode or reset. Try this. If all doesnt help i have no more ideas. Maybe sth is broken…

I use the sub37 on Live9 - it syncs, transmitts an receives midi straight from ‘out of the box’ without changing any default parameter - sequencer data as the only exception (key, seq)

I would have asked the same questions as tubman. It’s quite obvious that your surroundig hardware and/or your logic setup has issues.

Please try midi-monitor.

Hi Andy,

Did you have any luck solving your Sub 37 band Logic X issues?

I’m new to the scene and am having trouble trying to connect my Sub37 to Logic appropriately. Here is my frustrating situation:

Setup: laptop running logic connected to Scarlett midi interface via USB, midi out cable running to mid in on Moog Sub37

Successfully got logic to send midi data to moog. When I place some notes on the piano roll using the mouse and on a blank external midi instrument track it triggers the moog.

My questions:

  1. How do I get the clock to sync?
  2. is it possible to play the moog and it records the notes sequence in Logic as midi? I don’t want to have to record audio out of the moog.

Issues:

It seems temporamental, or I’ve not set it up right because it quite often triggers the moog to play continuous sound rather than only on note trigger.

If you’ve managed to figure any of this out I’d be very grateful
