Help needed getting this sound?

Hi,

I know there has just been a thread on pads (sorry!) but I didn’t think this fitted.
Can anyone give me any tips on how to get a sound close to the pad at the start of this video?
I’m after the sparkling breathy sounding one and I’m not sure how Id go about recreating it on the A4?
Iv had a few tries but not really got to where I want to go.
Thanks!

Did you use OSC 1 noise ?

I’d bet money on that sound being a preset from the Korg M1. Doubtful you’ll get a sound near to it with the A4, as the M1 was sample-based.

Pretty sure that pad sounds comes from a nice 80s sample-based digital synth like a M1 or a D50.

You might have a hard time replicating that with an analog synth like the A4.

A lot of those classic digital pads used layering and a pretty hefty dose of chorus and reverb to add movement. Maybe it helps to experiment with the effects on the A4?

No I didn’t! ill give that a go and see if it helps. Thanks

Korg Wavestation, Roland D50 will get you there (or any newer incarnation)…The A4 nope.

As for the Korg M1, what a yucky synth. I always disliked the sound of it and was glad to see the back of mine.

Ah ok, It sounds to me like it could be a choir or a flute patch possibly? I could maybe try and find a sample and load it into my Digitakt?

Why not sample it from this track?

I wanted to challenge myself to try and make it basically  but if all else fails I can just sample it yeah.

Was messing around with a similar(ish) sound on the A4 a couple of months back but with the filter less open - not with my machines at the mo’ but let me know if you want it and I’ll dig it up.

But yep, the exact sound you’re after is sample based as folks have point out above.

Oh if you could that would be great

The korg M1 preset combi “The Deep” gets really close:

One thing you might notice when you open up the track you posted in an audio editor is that the pad sound seems slightly offset in the left and right channel which is a nice trick to give even more movement.

ah this would be a great starting point. I have a MK2 and it doesn’t have the preset  do you know where I can get hold of it?

Yes, this is on the Korg M1. You can get the M1 VST plugin as part of Korg Legacy Collection, or on its own.

It’s not a bad deal if you enjoy the kind of sounds that were popular in a lot of house and techno music from the late 80s and 90s.

Just went through my A4 and couldn’t find the patch :frowning:

May well’ve been saved over by accident, sorry about that.
