I’m looking for a MIDI box that can merge 2 MIDI inputs into one output, but also filter MIDI Notes from one of the inputs and pass only the MIDI Clock.
preferably without external power and not too expansive (I know the MIDIHub can do it, but it’s overkill for my needs).
Does anyone know if a device like that exists?
I’m sure there’s other solutions but I’m not sure what your price point is.
I suppose I should also ask, if you are filtering notes from one input, can you not just disable sending MIDI from this device? Perhaps more detail of what devices you are merging and what specifically you are trying to achieve. There may be a settings based solution that might only require you to merge things.
This was the fastest and cleanest “little diagram” I’ve seen!
I’m not familiar with the specific settings for the Medusa or Tracker so I’ll need to think about it. I’m sure you as sharp as I am at all of this but perhaps having mine and others’ eyes on it can find a solution.
That Retro-kits RK006 looks like it would be the best all-in-one solution and would allow you to connect things in a hub-and-spoke fashion, filtering events/clock per port. Nice device if it’s in your price point. Having the USB MIDI Host as well would give you some flexibility for adding additional, USB-based controllers in the future.
It does look good, but it’s already in the MIDIhub territory (price wise) which looks more robust and also very flexible.
I think I’ll just get the MIDIhub after all and it’ll probably be useful in future applications.
Unless someone will come up with a better solution for me
The Bome does all my midi routing, with an 8x8 interface plus about 16 ports of usb midi attached to it. Midi translator pro scripts aren’t the most fluid tool for managing stuff, but they’re not the worst interface I’ve dealt with. I’m an engineer, though, so my standards may not be yours. I’ve got an rk006 sitting around, but mostly just to be a midi expander for the Bome for a portable rig — haven’t looked at its filtering capabilities at all. Also picked up a Blokas the other day, mostly to play with midi LFOs, but I haven’t had time to plug it in yet.
I just read about MIDI Translator Pro and wow, that’s a really powerful tool. You can do so many things with it.
Does it come with the Bome Box? or is it sold separately? It’s not very clear on their website…
You don’t need a computer to run it on. Possibly better latency, since it’s on a dedicated, perf-optimized box, but I haven’t seen numbers. It does some neat tricks with enabling network midi and with handling midi for A&H mixers too, but mostly it’s the not needing a computer.
