What I want: every single Mellotron sound available anywhere, including the Optigan, Orchestron, and Chamberlin, loaded into one piece of hardware
What would be ideal: I’d buy a Mellotron Micro (I really do love this hardware) and would be able to sideload any sound I wanted, from any source. My research seems to indicate this isn’t possible?
What there’s no way I’d possibly do: Buy one of the larger digital Mellotrons and spend, wait, that can’t be right, JFC it is right, SEVENTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS for their complete soundset
What I already own, luckily: a Nord Electro 6
So. I guess what I’m asking is, is it possible to collect the sounds from everywhere (say, M-Tron Pro Complete, when it goes on sale?), convert them to Nord’s format, and install them on the Electro? Or is the only real solution a combination of hardware and software?
Your musical achievements in the grand scheme of things will probably amount to the same level… you would’ve saved a ton of bucks… and have created a very unique sample pack.
If you’re not opposed to plug-ins, Arturia’s Mello-Fi is fantastic and- in my opinion- makes every sound sound like its coming from a Mellotron.
Unless Mellotron sounds are like Pokémon you’re trying to catch, this serves the sonic purpose but, if you have the Pokémon mentality then you’ll have to collect EVERY POSSIBLE SOUND IMAGINABLE to complete your collection
This is kinda where I’m coming from! Although I just discovered that there are more samples on Nord’s site than I realized. None of the Optigan/Orchestron rhythms, though. I’ll download these and load them up and see what they’re like…
I’m close to pulling the trigger - I think I may have made a mistake in my accounting, but if there are 100 sounds and you can pair them up that is 4950 combinations?
I’ve hoped for this too. The M Tron Pro has come a long way. The most recent update was massive.
For hardware, I’ve considered loading up something with multi sample support, like Waldorf Iridium. It wouldn’t have enough memory to support the whole library though.
Also wish there were other versions of the Micro. Either Micro+ with the full range of keys or a Nano that could just be a desktop control with midi hosting. The rack and mini models are a little big for me.
If Gforce put out an iOS version of Mtron Pro Complete I’d just stick it on my iPad mini and prop it up right on top of the Mellotron Micro, to add all the other sounds…
Not sure, but I imagine posting jams in this thread is fine?
I’ve thought about the micro. A nice thing about the ’official’ mellotron sounds is how they’ve been remastered. I think they sound really nice, and they’re not as pitchy as some other libraries. I do like the character of the pitchy stuff, but I think it’s nicer to start with good intonation and give it some wobble when you’re feeling it.
