i always turn off autocorrect immediately on any device that has it. im way more of a stoned grammar kind of mistake maker, as evidenced by this sentence

I’ve had auto correct turned off on my Apple devices for years. Apple’s spell check is awful. I’m horrible at spelling but with only one letter off Apple cannot suggest correct spelling. I either use Google or Microsoft Word to correct my spelling. If Apple cannot spell correct it definitely cannot auto correct.

Every so often I just hit every single word Gboard suggests to me as the next word it thinks I’m about to type/swipe and see if it makes something resembling lyrics. I usually start with just one letter.
Tonight, Android thinks that I was planning on writing this to you all, based on me hitting the letter “a” (I’ve added line breaks):

The weirdest thing about this is way it keeps suggesting “a la precede,” which is a phrase I’ve never used or heard before, from a language I don’t even know. I had to look it up.
Oh, and right before christmas, I looked up some Violent Femmes tabs. For whatever reason, Gboard has become obsessed with suggesting those 2 words no matter what. It regularly turns “I’m heading home” to “I’m Violent Femmes chords.”

The most annoying one is that any time I type “done,” which I figure is a pretty common word, Gboard will change it to “dine,” a word no one has used in 100 years. I turn it back and it turns it back. And back. And back.

This is what annoys me the most, that at some point, autocorrect started to ignore me telling it that, yes, I actually want to write what I‘m typing and not what you’re suggesting. It accepts it at first, but when my sentence is finished and I send the message, it’s changing things to what it wants to it be at the last minute. What the fuck? Can you imagine an OS asking you whether you’re sure you want to delete something, you click no, and only when you open your trash later, you see that it just decided to delete the thing anyways?

This is from ten years ago, but it still amuses me. For those unaware, Auckland is by far our largest city – 1/3 the entire country’s population – so of course those of us outside Auckland think it gets too much attention/taxpayer money etc. Also, having lived in and visited great cities outside of Aotearoa New Zealand, I fully support autocorrect’s opinion of this sprawling, centre-less, heartless mess of a city:

I’m just a caveman, I fell into some ice and was later thawed out.
Your autocorrect scares me, how does it know what I want to write? Can it read my mind? Are there gremlins in my phone changing what I type?
I may not understand autocorrect, but I do understand a device that previously had mono sampling should have it on the newer version, and my client deserves a firmware update to correct the issue and 2 free sample packs for compensation.

yes, I recently had to retype a word like 12x because it kept autocorrecting it to some stupid shit.
Seems like a BigTech thing. Make it worse so small improvements are more obvious? No idea…
