I’m trying to turn a Launchpad X and a Launchpad Pro mk3 (yes it has its own TRS MIDI, but I want to use both as one device, so in this case I’m only using USB) into a poor man’s Linnstrument with the help of the RK-005. These are two possible configurations I’m trying to make work:
A: Both Launchpads are plugged into a USB hub that’s plugged into the RK-005 USB host port, the RK-005 is connected to an iPad (working in the soft thru mode).
B: Both Launchpads are plugged into a USB hub that’s plugged into the RK-005 USB host port, the RK-005 is powered from a power bank or a wall wart while using DIN MIDI out to control gear (working in the USB host mode).
The problem is that it doesn’t work. I’ve encountered the following (possibly interconnected) issues ranked by severity:
-
No MIDI messages are coming through from the Launchpad X in the soft thru mode, even if I connect it directly without a hub. This is completely preventing me from implementing my dual Launchpad idea.
-
No MIDI messages are coming through from either Launchpad in the standalone USB host mode. This could probably be circumvented by using the TRS MIDI out on the Pro and the DIN MIDI in on the RK-005 given that I’m able to solve the first issue and make the X work somehow.
-
Not really an issue, but for some reason the Pro is working when plugged into a hub, but no MIDI messages are passing when it’s connected directly.
This may or may not be related to the issue: the Pro is recognized as 3 USB MIDI devices, only one of which is sending MIDI messages, while the X is recognized as 2 USB MIDI devices, both of which are sending identical MIDI messages.
