Guys, throw all the synthwave music you know at me, please

So not too long ago I played a video game called Blood Dragon it has 80s FM synth music. It made me find purpose in life…

However I am having a REALLY hard time finding more like this, mainly because I get hit with Synth-Pop revival music. I am however looking for pure music (no lyrics please). I found literally 2 “mix-tapes” on Soundcloud with no download option, it’s eating up my bandwidth and I also want a bit more variety (on repeat for weeks now).

So: Synthwave - 80s style, strong beat (not the ambient stuff aroun 70-120 BPM at most) and no lyrics.

Ignore soundcloud, go to YouTube. Start with Com Truise, Tommy 86 and Sunglasses Kid and follow the recommendations.

Also check out some vaporwave mixes. Lots of good stuff on YouTube, I’ll dig some stuff up when I’m not on my phone. There’s also an amazing YT account I follow that posts full video game soundtracks on a daily basis if you want a fix of the original source.

Ok, have you watched Turb Kid. If I were you I’d buy it on iTunes without batting an eyelid and then reply to me and discuss about all the great synth lines in there and have fun guessing what synths and effects they used. Then try and create the same patches on the synths we own.
I may be a little over excited, just watch the movie and you’ll see why. :wink:

This channel is the absolute don of 80s videogame soundtracks though. Loads and loads of obscure Japanese FM-chip based stuff:

Composed by Toshiya Yamanaka who would go on to make the Sin & Punishment soundtrack which is one of my all-time faves.

Yuzo Koshiro is a another FM fan favourite, Streets of Rage was highly regarded at the time:

I don’t use to listen a lot of synth wave but I found this artist on soundcloud one year ago and totally felt in love of this American artist !

Listen all his tracks if you got time you will not be disappointed hehe :smirk_cat:

Bandcamp is the best place i know for this. Name drop: carpenter brut, dan terminus, dance with the dead, Daniel deluxe, dynatron, gost, gunship, index code, lazerhawk, Tommy 86, vulta, waveshaper.

Of these examples, gost and dance with the dead are of the stronger, heavier type. There is trash and heavy metal, and then there is gost. Friggin adamantium coated led.

Not sure if it’s Synth Wave… i kind of feel those one though :stuck_out_tongue:

I put Rex the Dog in first because i have not seen mentioned and i surprising me to actually love it… (maybe it’s because i like depeche mode i don’t know) because Synth Wave is not my genre at all… but i dig in rex the Dog… the other one are more Club i guess… (Savas Pascalidis and Digitalism)

Can’t wait to see Blade Runner 2049 :stuck_out_tongue: i’m surprised how TRON Legacy is not SynthWave at all, it should have been thought i perfectly seen TRON with Synthwave original soundtrack for the movie…
