Grendel Drone Commander Ammo Can (V1) versus newer models

So I have an opportunity to pick up one of the original DC units built into the ammo can… has anyone on here compared the V1 sound directly with the pedal and DC2e versions? I know the newer ones have more features, but I love the sound of the V1 in demos, and the way it looks.

I really liked the v1 because it was easy to get some cool grooves going with the modulation that reminded me of early krautrock like Neu!

I also had dual dc2e modules in a self contained box. They sounded really nice and beefy. It was also cool to have all that control, but found it hard to get to that same organic vibe that the v1 had.

Agreed. Ihave the original v1 and just sold the DC-2e. I would describe the latter as more aggressive, in part because it’s saw + square into the filter vs tri + square on the original. Obviously there’s more modulation on the new one and you can do more things with it. But the basic sound is different.

I have the ammo can and Pedal, pretty much the same except the Pedal has a few more features like an envelope on a switch so when you turn off the machine the sound can either stop instantly or gradually fade…

If I could only have one then it would be the ammo can, its just simply much more desirable.

Thanks for your comparison and insights :beers:

I’ve had the pedal before and my black-faced Ammo Can v1 has just arrived. It does look really cool, and I want to get deep with the sound exploration this weekend.

One question… is the front door removable at the hinge? I can see it getting in the way sometimes.
