New on this forum but not to Elektron. Have had the Rytm MKI since it came out. Also have a Analog Four MKII.**
Ok, I was running out of voices on my MKI especially with holding long bass notes. I also figured I would want to use the sampling capabilities of the MKII, so I got one.
I will be syncing them together with probably the MKII as the master. I think I will run the audio out from the MKI to the MKII external in. This will allow the master compressor to glue everything together.
Do any of you use two Rytms together like this? Got any tips or things you’ve learned along the way? I love these machines. I am really curious about sampling.
@Kultschar, The only time i test this combo (2AR) was with a friend that bring one at home. We put a mix table between us and have a nice jam. It seems to be a good potential techno combo
Not sure to buy a second one, but tempted…
The nice thing about multiple Elektrons is that you DON’T really have to think about anything.
You can just use them synced but working from each one individually as though they were just different sections of the same big instrument.
I think your idea to chain them the way you describe is great too. I’ve done that with several Elektron based setups.
I think the only thing that could possibly open that setup more (depending on how you work/compose) is say a DJ mixer if you want to do full sets. You could crossfade tracks nicely that way. (Check out some of Dave Mech’s double Digitakt videos for example.)
Couldn’t have said it better - I’m running a dark trinity and OT+A4+AR combined is like one big, glorious instrument of possibilities. Can go deep into the rabbit hole or stay up top as need requires or fancy takes.
Now I ordered a used Octatrack mkII. I went a little crazy, I must admit. So now I have 2 Rytms, A4 mk2, and OT mk2 (coming soon).
I’m not doing anything live, I’m purely a studio musician. The end goal is to be able to use the strengths of each machine to make complete songs. I’m still on the fence about whether I should multitrack the individual elements into the DAW for mixing or just do the best I can in each unit, run them into a mixer (or Octatrack), and then run the two bus into a master compressor and back into the DAW. I have a few pieces of outboard gear for further processing on the 2 bus.
I’m thinking I probably don’t want to compress the Octatrack and Analog 4 with the Rytm compression.
