Going to LA

Another +1 on Museum of Jurassic Technology.
I haven’t been in 15 years so I don’t know how broken things might be now. Go on the same day as the Culver City Farmers Market and then you’ll have a backup. Also, back then, there was an OK Indian Chaat place very near, next corner… but truly, MJT is one of my favorite life experiences in the realm of museums/permanent installations/attractions/art…
And since this is, as others have mentioned, truly a thread about what/where to eat: if you make it to Perfect Circuit (certainly worth it to go noodling on a bunch of current gears), the pescaderia on the corner had good ceviche and cold-ass XX Amber last time I was there.

Americans don’t want to admit that capitalism rewards greed and causes homelessness. Other countries are starting to figure it out, but Americans have been pretty brainwashed to think that anything socialism is “evil” and then they complain about homeless people, so dumb.

That’s a can of worms to open…But, I would say “capitalism”? Yeah, that would be LA. You know where perfect Circuit is? Burbank. You know what Burbank is famous for? Game shows. Yeah, I agree on some sort of general vision of The United States having a failing system, but in the context of Los Angeles. I mean advertising and commercialism pretty much comes from there. LA from the first guy who developed it with palm tree rowed streets until it’s otherworldly present version, where you can be walking down this beautiful beach full of people and look up the coast to see smoke from a forest fire. It’s mutation of the sordid sort, but also a thing of beauty with all it’s imperfections. But, yeah socialism. Who knows. I say we get this space program going. Get the Billionaires all up to the moon, then when they are gone, we all steal all their money. Split it all up and take a vacation.

Melrose and Fairfax, near Canters 24hr Bakery and Restaurant. That area is a trip.

some complaints are legit…we had a studio in Santa Monica, on Bicknell. we regularly were cleaning piss and shit off our door and door handle. homelessness is a huge problem. but there are homeless that dont want to be helped. and intentionally stir shit up.

what do you do? I think its awesome that there are provisions given to help. people should get a helping hand. no one should be left behind [I believe]…but there are definitely some that would rather shit on your werk place than get any kind of help. THOSE are the ones that draw complaints.

Honestly man any Mexican food. I live in Phoenix and I love Mexican food. I could eat it every day. If you haven’t had good Mexican food you’re missing out. I’m sure all the recommendations in here are solid.

Go to Amoeba Music on Hollywood.
Go to the Hollywood Walk of Fame while you’re at it, go past it.
There is As The Record Turns record store. Grab a couple nuggets.
Go all the way back to Thai Town for a nice meal.
Drive from Hollywood to the beginning of Mulholland Drive next to the Highway.
Now enjoy the ride, stay on mulholland drive until Malibu, you’re in for a treat.
Whether its day time, you’ll be on Tarantino’s last movie, whether it’s night time, well, David Lynch kicks in
At Malibu just go at the beach, and walk around on the beach, it’s pretty neat.
I d go to Santa Monica end afternoon to chill and enjoy a nice dinner.

Other than that, yeah, Perfect Circuit is cool to try out gear.

What I found best in LA is really to drive around and stop whenever you feel like it. There are a lot of nice hidden spots, go to the street side taco spot, go anywhere and enjoy…

:raccoon:  :sunglasses:

Dunno if you’ve been to the industrial area downtown….I’d say otherwise. 1000s of tents. It alarming the number of people that are out on the street.

So…back to things to do…
Even if you’re not into skating/surfing, it’s definitely fun to go watch. LOTS of pros there. Upcoming pros too…you’ll see some of the best talent. Hit the pier in Huntington to watch some sick surf. Or any of the skate parks downtown. There’s a great park on the boardwalk in Venice. SICK skating going on there!

Again.

Dunno if this would interest you, but the Hollywood Forever Cemetery is kinda neat to check out. Paramount is right there too. I dunno if they are doing tours at Paramount these days.

TMZ bus tour :rofl::rofl: be good for a laff [if it’s running]. I always meant to do that. Ha

is there rules somewhere, so i don’t break them? i was under the impression general discussion means general discussion?

Guidelines say to stay on topic. This thread has a topic.

General section means general topics. No threads should be derailed.

When people go off topic, they get flagged, and I either gotta enforce the rules or hear it from the flaggers. It’s a fantastic way to spend a Friday night.
So do the mods a solid and stay on topic please.

And if you need to respond, PM me, so that this thread can, ya know, stay on topic.

If you’re absolutely loaded and you wanna buy some high-end audio gear, make an appointment at Vintage King in Echo Park–they have a showroom. Then have lunch across the street at Guisado’s. Super authentic gourmet tacos and homemade Mexican drinks like jamaica and horchata.

Guisado’s was once a single shop, but they nailed the concept so now they have, like, 4 locations I think. Use your GPS app to locate the one nearest you.

If you’re looking to get absolutely caffeinated out of your mind, try the matcha green tea soft serve frozen yogurt at Tea Master in Little Tokyo. Best matcha soft serve I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried a lot of them.

Go at sunset - it’s much nicer then and you might meet a mountain lion… or a rattlesnake, like I did in full sunshine in Hidden Canyon one time. Driving in the desert is amazing, watching the windfarms turn slowly and miles tick by.

This several times over ; I sort of hated it the first few days, especially having to drive on a freeway to get anywhere, but eventually I got into it over the years (though I’ve only been there a few times), even including being carded at some bar on Sunset - this really didn’t happen in London at that time, so why would I carry ID with me? - so we went to the one next door with a shoddy band playing instead, and it was fine.

All-night taco stands in Pasadena are the best, especially after a few too many in the local rock’n’roll bar.
