Hi there,
I would love to record on my DAW ( Live ) all the single trigs as MIDI notes from my patterns.
So I mean, I would like to arm a MIDI channel, hit play button and having the pattern written in MIDI notes in a clip in Live.
Somehow I can not see these notes getting into the DAW as opposite as if I press them myself… Non an option as I want the sequencer to trig inseide the DAW.
Is that even possible with Digitakt 2?

I believe that you’ll need to change the audio track to a midi track and of course configure for midi output, then the trigs on that track will send midi notes, but be aware that the trig values (ie the actual notes set from the trig page) will be the output.
So, if your samples are chromatic in recording only and not by product of trig settings, then you’ll get something like placeholders, as they should align with the grid correctly, but the output will be whatever the trig locked note or track note is set to, depending on how you have it currently arranged.
If all the notes in your pattern are C5 on the trig page, all the output will be C5 midi notes.
I’m not using DT2 yet though so I can’t test it, but this is what I’ve read. On DT1 you’d have to copy the trigs to a midi track, but on DT2 it seems you can change your audio track to a midi track and retain the existing trigs so that’s what you’d want to do.

Thanks shigginpit.
I see.
In this case if I can not listen to the sound ( using audio tracks ) is a bit pointless.
I would love to basically record a SONG ( differente patterns ) but on LIVE, so to make a better and precise arrangement in my DAW, and once happy with a super detailed arrangement, run it and record it for a proper master.
It is such a shame we can not separate sounds/tracks…

You could probably double the track, one as audio and one as midi, with the trigs copied from the audio track to the midi track. The only midi output should be the trig values and if it mirrors what’s happening on the audio track then what the DAW receives should be the same.
This would not work with performative features though, and it would limit your total tracks in that project unless you record in stages as opposed to songs.
I think for your purposes this is the closest you’ll get, but maybe someone will have a solution.
I’m not an expert on Live but I believe that there’s a tool which can turn audio to midi notes, I don’t know how well it works, but you could explore that also if it’s a better workflow for you.

Thanks,
I will think a fast and simple solution, otherwise I ll have to record single tracks separately and then remaking the track as I want… But it is a shame as all the speed we get from Digitakt is basically lost once we want to do serious arrangement…
I guess, the best option is just focusing at my Digitakt when I want to write a track and directly recording the whole audio trying not to make mistakes… Only good thing is not overthinking and overarranging things… Yet I am a bit disappointed with this.
Hope an update or a solution will come out.
Thanks for now shig!

You could sketch your song in the DT, then when you want to capture MIDI data in the DAW, change each track on the DT to a MIDI track and simply add a VST to the chain in the DAW so you can hear the track as well.
