No way I’m getting rid of the MDUW. It i sone of the few synths that has a mind and soul of its own. Had the MD on top of a DPO yesterday. Good stuff. MD is here to stay. It’s a classic.
I’m not hating on the AR, but considering what you could do if you already own an MD or OT and an A4 (or other analogue synth), I think there are going be some people with buyers remorse, once they realize they didn’t need to drop ANOTHER $1400 basically just to gain 8 analogue drum voices (not synths) and flashing pads. But who knows? Maybe it really will be worth it.
this is going to be a great time to pick up some used ELEKTRONS!
yea, I’m perfectly happy with the MDUW + A4 combo for now… this is such a killer setup, far beyond percussion…
and tbh it ought to be that way, it’s more than 2.5k of equipment lol.
I don’t need any other sound sources or sequencers, the only thing I’m missing, and which the AR has, is a stereo compressor… eyeing the RNLA for that and I’m sure it’ll be a worthy addition.
(and I somehow keep forgetting that the A4 actually has 2 “sleeping” tracks which can be awaken with another analog sound module, should the need arise…)
The AR actually has me more inspired to dig deeper into the MD. I guess I don’t feel like I can justify buying another drum machine if I know there are things I still haven’t mastered on the MD, and it is really re-inspiring me. Maybe I’ll buy an A4 instead and just sample analog drum hits from it? Then again, the kinda MPC/kinda Roland TR/fully Elektron aspect of the AR is intriguing…aw, who am I kidding? I’ll have to have them all eventually. But you will have to pry my Machinedrum from my cold, dead hands.
