Forum issue with replying to people

Hi,
I seem to have an issue with trying to reply to other people‘s posts.

I use the “reply to” button on the bottom right of a specific post, I can see when writing my reply in the editor that I am replying to the intended post. However, once I submit the reply, it seems to lose the link to the post I was replying to. It instead just looks like a general post in the thread.

I also had a similar issue when quoting someone and replying to the quote, as soon as I submitted the reply the quotation disappeared, as if the post was auto- edited.

Is this a bug or am I just daft?

This is why I almost always quote something from the message I’m replying to. But Discourse (the forum software) gets upset if you quote the whole message, so sometimes it has to be a weird fragment.

Edit: it seems you can quote an entire message now. Software update or Mandela effect?

If you reply to a specific post, the forum software offers specific shortcuts connecting the original post and the reply.

@LORNIVERSE this reply is made to your post (skipping @obscurerobot’s) and I hope it works.

EDIT: this probably happens only when there are several replies,. no just one direct?

Both tests are different than i expect - not aware of some of these checkboxes

Even as admin i am used to having full quoted posts removed - but maybe this applies to the first reply only ?!

Anyway - it is what it is - we work with/around what we have … or better learn its nuances i guess

partial quoting seems a safe bet if in doubt

if you’re replying to the last post, the little post link thing doesn’t show up.

If I ever meet someone who works for Discourse I’ll beat them (softly and lovingly) with a copy of Diestel (soft cover).
