Replaced my 2nd gen 2i2 (didn’t get rid of it thank god) last month, bought it brand new directly from Focusrite.
First problem I noticed was with the buffer, it’ll often start to break up within a couple hours playing audio from my PC. Unplugging/plugging back in & restarting my music player software fixes it temporarily. Someone said it’s because the driver doesn’t lock the buffer settings and windows randomly overwrites them during playback. Maybe there’s a windows setting I can change?
Second, it seems like the speaker & phones outs clip at relatively low levels. Playing test tones into it and monitoring in ableton with an oscilloscope I get a perfectly clean signal, but it clips before it hits my speakers and I know for a fact I’m not driving them anywhere near too hard. Lowering the level both on the hardware itself and in the control software doesn’t help. As far as I know this only happens with audio from the analogue ins, audio over USB from my PC sounds fine
