Hello,
Does anyone have any experience with the Focal Elear headphones? Are they worth the $?
Due to Covid it is unlikely I will be able to visit my studio much and I am looking to upgrade my HD-650’s.
Thank you in advance for any thoughts

Not sure. I hear the Clears are absolutely amazing though. I think you can get Beyerdynamics 1990’s for less than the Elegias.
I just got a deal on some of Elears at £500 so pulled the trigger.
Thanks doh!
I had a pair for just over a year, before getting the Utopia. They work very well with Sonarworks Reference 4 (Headphone version). I found they were a bit too mid warm without it. great dynamics and detail for a headphone. The dynamics do cost you some volume headroom, but very much worth the sacrifice, they still go plenty loud enough for healthy extended listening.
The Dekoni leather pads work well with them for a slightly different sound, too if you want to change things up a bit.
One thing I did find with the Elear, is that they seem to be much more source dependant than other headphones I’ve used, in that you need to try them with different audio sources to find a good match. Try them with a few different devices before coming to a conclusion on them if you can.
Big thanks for this.
I pulled the trigger last week and have them since Friday.
I like them and find them to be a step up from the HD650 which I have used for years. Totally agree, the Mids are a bit nasty with out SW.
Also totally agree about the source my 828 has enough power to drive them but they sound much better when I use a amp.
What difference do the leather pads make?
Thanks again.
