Flying with ELEKTRON

i’m doing some traveling this week and considering which of my gear i’ll be bringing.

my computer is coming. so… ableton is coming. trying decide if i should bring…
push or an elektron box.

i’ll won’t be checking any luggage and only using my mono 365 bag. http://monocreators.com/the-365/

i’m looking for advice.
any experiences w/ elektron boxes and security? is it ever an issue?
other thoughts?

No more issues than you would expect with a laptop

Will you be spending a lot of time producing music while you travel? If so bring your elektron. I’ve traveled with a MnM with no issues. Although taking a laptop and a push sounds like fun.

I’ve walked onto planes without having to take a unit out of my backpack. I’ve also been stopped and been made to open my pelican case when traveling with multiple units. It’s a completely random experience depending on whatever. I’ve flown them a few times in multiple settings and it’s always a gamble.

To make life simple: treat it like a laptop. When you get to security, take it out of your backpack or whatever just like you would/ will your laptop. You’ll be fine.

alright, thats what i thought i would hear.

and if it take it… thats what i’ll do. thx.

i fly with a Rimowa cabin suitcase
inside are

  • 2 elektron boxes, on top of eachother
  • their power supplies
  • Moog Minitaur in a cardboard box from Apogee Duet 2 interface
  • Duet 2 Interface in its foam case
  • 2 hard drives
  • a whole camerabag containing 2 Leica lenses and a fuji X-pro1

in the side panel of the suitcase sits my MAcbook pro and power supply

sometimes i replace the camerabag and minitaur with 2 Genelec speakers (6010)
then the handluggage weighs more than my checked in luggage

Got a 2 week business trip coming up - the only music gear I bring with me on trips like that is my OP-1. But I like to travel light…

Each time i have to get far away from studio, i only take one Elektron, just one. The one i want to improove my knowledge in it. It’s very interesting cause you can focus on the practice without the disturbing presence of other gear. So that’s the kind of period wich permit to really dig the machine you choose. Advice take the latest you get or the one you know the less.

I took my Elektrons to a few airports: Paris, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Budapest, London… never had any issue…

The worst I had to do was reply “yeah” when the security guy asked “is that a DJ thing?”

had my OT with protective cover in a backpack Berlin - Barcelona … the spanish dude said a funny word “syntetico” … nobody seemed to be interested in my baby

!!! yes.
all went well until leaving the tulsa airport… emptied my mono 365 bag - that was all i carried.
turned out the TSA dude made beats and produced… and he was producing the TSA gal who was searching my bag.

sigh.
