Feature request: Auto-save recorder buffers to Project Folder

So here’s the situation. I have my Octa set up with a turntable on the AB-inputs, and several recording buffers assigned to their respective tracks, and some samples from the compact flash on other tracks (flex or static, whatever, this is not the issue of my request).

Jamming along I re-record the buffers, until I’m so happy with the results I want to save the current “Everything” (Flex, Static, Recorder buffers, patterns, scenes etc…) to the Project as the Project.

This would mean I would have to go and save every buffer (worst case 8 of them) ‘as a sample’ and re-assign them to a flex, and then assign that flex to that track again. This takes a long time and puts the focus on data management and not music making.

My request is thus simple. A function, preferably in the Project menu, that not only saves the Project, but also saves all the recorded buffers and reassigns them to Flex machines and loads those flex machines on the respective tracks of the original buffers (while naming the samples something like "R1 ").

Since all these functions can be done by (tedious) manual actions, I guess they could be automated into one script.

What do you think?

I agree. There needs to be an easier way to save the samples. Maybe a selection in the global menu that will automatically save the samples for later when you accidentally shut down without saving.

There are many possible ways to make it easier. The trick is to find the best way.

This is the number one reason I don’t own a OT any more. Turning it off always freaked me out a little. Now I use Maschine. Hit save and I’m done. It isn’t nearly as adventurous and wild, but it gets the job done and I’m not paranoid that I may miss a step in my pre-shutdown sequence and lose a killer bit of work forever. :frowning:

Odds are I will own another OT some day owing to my irrational lust for Elektron products, hopefully this will be simplified by then.

If this is really an issue for some people to such an extend that they get rid of their Octatrack, this means this is something Elektron needs to take note of. And find a solution for.

I just really don’t like having to rely on my computer to record each Octatrack channel as audio every time I have something nice going.

never had to worry about this (still to new to have come across this lol) but wow that WOULD be annoying.

There is the “Save all recordings” function (Func+Bank while in rec setup menu to find it) in case you missed it, saves in the project foldet (or audio pool depending on your settings, I believe). Doesn’t assign anywhere except to self but at least you’ll know every buffer was saved.

Read the VERY informative simonhold’s potst. Its very clear.

I’m afraid to close my OT.

I left it on for 5 days now!

I read them.
I just don’t think you should be worried about closing the OT if you save all recordings and save the project? What am I missing?

+1 for a menu-less/quick key combo to write all buffers to CF

This is definitely the weak point of the OT.
Sample management, saving, naming, and assigning is tedious, distracting, and depressing.
Which is why I still use a computer for all these tasks.

I suppose a key combo that would save all tracks, all samples assigned to them, and assign all buffers to static slots would make life a lot easier. I feel bad showing the saving and assigning method to my students, it feels like it’s something that would turn them off from the OT alltogether.

yeah, i’d be perfectly fine if it saved and re-assigned everything automatically, but can the OT do that without stopping the audio?

+1 to up the workflow

+1 for easy shortcut to save or save-assign!
+1 for a BOUNCE to CF shortcut!

Yes! And while adding this feature, include saving all parts too! I think we need a save all command.

I recently found out that saving a project doesnt save parts, so you can’t press function+reload until you save the parts seperately.

The kind of “mistake” you probably only make once

but yes, sure, +1 for saving everything in one button combo.

It was not so bad  An error message pops up saying I should save the parts first… I saved the project first but that doesn’t do the trick.
