Hi there,
In search of groove and swing…
For hip hop heads
What are your favourite hardware for fd ?
Mpd, mpc…?
Tried sp 404 but don’t like pad
Thx
I never tried but I think MPC or Maschine are the best for hiphop
If you want new gen, go for maschine mk3 or maschine+, if you want old school go for MPC2000XL or MPC3000
@blaize
Thanks but i only search without computer so maschine is out
Mpc 3000 is too much expensive
2000xl is better than 2500?
Thinking digitakt and akai mpd
The Digitakt will always give you 8 sample slots only which might be limiting in the long run. Maybe a 1010 Blackbox and a MPD instead if the bigger MPC‘s (including MPC one or Live) are out of the budget?
@sndrsklr digitakt is too limited for you?
Not at all, it might just be in terms of fingerdrumming since the standard layout is a 4x4 grid. So if you use a MPD with the Digitakt you‘ll only be able to use 8 of the 16 pads. At the beginning it’s more than fine but if you keep practicing you might want to use more than 8 sounds… I don’t use my Digitakt for fingerdrumming.
There’s a standalone Maschine out, no computer needed. I’m not the biggest fan of Maschine though, but some people swear by it.
The MPC One is amazing bang for buck, certainly among the best.
Otherwise the Pioneer Toraiz SP-16.
If you are looking old-school feeling, either an MPC1000 with JJOSXL or an MPC2000.
Interesting what do you use?
+1 for mpc one
Not a big fan of Toraiz
@hausland What do you use?
I use an MPC Live (or alternatively an iPad with the Sensel Morph for practicing). Take a look at the 1010 Blackbox, it’s already a USB host so you just plug in the MPD and you‘re good to go and you have 16 sample slots, stereo samples and it works a lot better with loops as backing tracks compared to the Digitakt. I love my Digitakt but for fingerdrumming there’s better gear.
@sndrsklr
Ok i will check it!
Looking to mpc one too
It seem many producer prefere 2000XL than 2500 so I think yes, it’s better. Marco Polo make all his beats on 2000XL.
The new Maschine+ is standalone and work without computer. Actually, it is the computer. Like the new MPC line (Live, One, X) it’s the computer itself packaged into a controller. Not a big fan of this, I prefere my real computer with a controller instead of these machines.
Digitakt is not very good at fingerdrumming, you can add a controller on top of it but you it’s like using a screwdriver to unlock a door, it’s not the right tool. Digitakt is awsome as it is, when programming PLock and using elektron sequencer.
So yeah, for me the choice is between Computer + controller or old MPC.
I have one each
Have a Maschine Mk2, but NEVER use it anymore (it’s just a controller, not standalone).
I had an MPC 1000 with JJOSXL, but sold it a few weeks ago because the load times were just too long.
I have an MPC Live and like it for fingerdrumming, it’s excellent for that.
I have a Toraiz SP-16 and love that for fingerdrumming and live performing as well - in particular live I find this one faster / more flexible / more hands-on than my MPC Live.
If you are looking at hip hop production or finger drumming hiphop, I think the MPC One (same as Live just more compact and more buttons which I think is better) is the way to go.
I like the Push 2 for pads and finger drumming, but I enjoy finger drumming on my Digitakt just the same. It’s probably just me though, seeing as I like the buttons on ye olde SP-1200 lol I own an MPC 500, Maschine MkII, Korg nanopad2, SP404, Push 2, and Digitakt. Push 2 for pads, Digitakt for buttons
Sp’s have midi in, you can play (or sequence) the drums/sounds with an external controller. I use an old Roland drum pad SPD6 (which also works on AA batteries by the way).
+1 for you

yeah do you have listen sample pack PAD THAI ?
I know them but never bought. They look like amazing. I love Marco Polo beats.
