Mine is the reverb on the Dreadbox Nymphes. It is such a weird choice for a synth that lush. It sounds so ringy, metallic. Unusable on a great many patches. But I’ve also made some really thick industrial sounds with that reverb so I have a fondness for it. Anyone else have any favorite shit reverbs?
The one on Korg ESX-1 (same on EMX-1, I am sure). Same description as yours, ringy and metallic, grainy, like rubbing your ears with metal shavings.
Oh. Monomachine. Actually, it’s not easy to find the VST replacement of it. It’s not reverb, it’s texturizer sort of
Alesis Quadraverb, Midiverb II and Zoom 1201. Extra shitty points when you clip the input.
old version of garageband full wet reverb
I feel like Soundforge 3.0 had a great shitty reverb. Something changed after SoundFoundry sold it.
OG Alesis Microverb with scratchy pots.
My old radio shack analog bbd reverb. Worst reverb ever and i love it.
The reverb on the sp303 is a huge reason that I haven’t sold it. Anybody know if a similar reverb plugin exists? Lately I prefer working with fx in the daw. I’ve been thinking I should build a substitute in the bitwig grid, but so far haven’t had much success and I usually don’t want to spend my limited music time doing that
These are the ones for me. Midiverb II worth it for the Bloom presets alone! Bonus points for the Quadraverb GT model, which has the Plus’ better algorithms and input EQ profiles that are actually very useful (unlike the distortions in it.)
Somewhat OT but related: favorite Unexpectedly Awesome Reverb- Dreadbox Darkness. There’s some serious algorithmic voodoo going on in that pedal… it and the QV GT are now my alltime favorites, even among non-shitty reverbs like Valhalla and Eventide Blackhole.
Aww yeh.
Maybe it’s a bit of a blanket, but a spring reverb. When that’s the sound I want nothing else will do. And it is surprisingly often the sound that I want.
I know there are really high end ones that hide most of the springiness out there, I’m not talking about those. I’m talking about the noisy twangy kinda too short so you compensate with delay until you’ve accidentally made a slapback effect cheap-ass better than nothing spring reverbs of the world.
(that last sentence is a working product name, copywrite tm)
I am genuinely surprised that the quadraverb is being regarded as a shitty reverb here! ,it’s one of my personal favourites off all time ![]()
One of the things I liked about the Alpha Base was the trippy-sounding reverb on it.
Also the Yamaha SPX 90 / Rex 50 has a couple of useable ones and The Quadraverb+ still sounds decent.
tascam portastudios / MTRs have charming shitty digital reverbs. nice to put a splash of those in certain places to bring the mix to new environments for a second.
tbh i think shitty reverbs with character are cooler than bland workhorse reverbs a lot of the time. i also think the popular mega reverbs like strymon blue sky / big sky kinda sound boring AF and are insantly recognizable whenever i hear them. Most shimmers sound like they’re trying too hard for instance.
octaverb hits different
plate
Me too. In fact i’d say i go for spring reverb at least 80% of the time. I have many.
Korg DRV-1000, it’s not always the right verb, but when it is…
