I’ve been getting into making more traditional rock/pop/indie rock stuff lately—all guitar/bass/etc recorded line-in into Ableton, with Guitar Rig 6 as my amp sim. When it comes to bedroom recording this stuff, I always have the hardest time with the drums. I find a lot of drum programing for “authentic” acoustic drums always sounds a bit stale/cold/etc. So I think I’d like to finally spend some money buying a decent sample pack or two for acoustic drums for the above genres. Does anyone here have a favorite?
Not a sample pack but check out EZ Drummer, it’s really cool!
I was thinking about EZ Drummer or Superior Drummer. Unfortunately the price is a bit steep for me—would rather pay $50-100 for samples than $300+ for another plugin. But maybe it’s worth it?
EZ Drummer is $180. I was able to get mine on sale and it included 1 free drum expansion pack. Before I got it I spent way more on loops and packaged samples and was never that happy with any of them.
I originally picked it up just to sample the drums, but started to use the software at some point. It does a pretty good job and has tools to get you going in the right direction!
Damn. I was really hoping this was going to be pictures of people’s favorite rocks they’ve found.
Yeah, I second EZ Drummer.
Loop Loft Matt Chamberlain sample packs
Also the Nate Smith stuff and the Mark Guiliana pack.
i have those and use them all the time, mostly the one shots. The Chamberlain sample pack has more drum kits.
they all have one shot samples and loops that are choppable.
tasty stuff from killer drummers.
If you don’t want EZ Drummer, you could give these ago: https://www.betamonkey.com
Me and my mate used these to record some stoner rock tracks years ago, they’re really good.
If you have any Apple products, you might try the Drummer from Garage Band / Logic. I guess it should be especially suited for this kind of music.
The integration with Ableton is of course a little problematic, but maybe Logic is even better suited for this if you really just record?
If you have an iPad, Digistix 2:
I use Addictive drums 2. Plenty of beats and kits. But quite expnsive.
I really like the dead drums packs from Circles: https://www.circlesdrumsamples.com/ . as the name suggests they’re very dry, super-tight and well recorded so they’re very easy to use and process as you like.
