I loved Figure, right up until they applied a login and locked me out of my own music.
DFAM
Syntakt
Model Cycles
Hopefully Perkons…
Tempest, MPC, Syntakt, Kick 2 (Software)
TR707 because it was my first.
DRM1 which I’m selling because it’s too big for my space.
Nord Drum 2 which I’m keeping because it’s not.
Nord drum 3p.
Playable as hell, not tweakable
Dfam.
I never really used it for percussion tho…
Analog rytm. Loved assigning parameters to velocity, very playable. I don’t know why people don’t like the pads.
Analog keys, I just recently started playing the keys open handed, like a bongo. Fun and works well to get that velocity expression.
I’ll report back shortly on the 01/iv. I’ve got one in the mail on its way to me :)))))
HW: Tempest, MPC 1000 and Pulsar-23

…if ur into any kind of beats, u’ll always need sampled hits and pieces AND synthed flavours… in most cases, best tonal results u achieve by layering the rhytmical main edges with BOTH…kiks, snares, claps, percussions of all kind profit big time from layering a sample underneath or on top of some fast envelope of a synthetic generated tone…
not to mention the fact, that any synth voice can grow, breath and evolve way more expressive along the way via it’s endless modulation options and truu tonal ranges…
best drum synthesis all in one plugin to me, is soniq charges’s microtonique…super simple while super flexible…
in hardware, analog flavours rule…a4…
but for full circle…as mentioned already…the real secret remains simple… LAYERING…
precise envelopes and compression do the rest…

DN has something special. The sounds are dope, especially kicks and hats. And there’s some magic in the timing or groove. Maybe it’s just pure speculation, but I feel the drums sound right to my ears. The Force has a wider sound palette and a very powerful output, which makes it perfect for drums. The drum synth engine is great (I guess it’s the same than Ableton drum synth). In comparison the TR6 was fun to play, but quite weak tone-wise.
In the software realm I still like Logic Drummer, XO, and a lot of NI libraries.
Anyway I think a good part of a drum machine lies in the control it offers on the variations, because a drum machine is quickly boring. The DN sequencer offers the most flexible way to manipulate a basic pattern to quickly end in polyrhythm and weird things.
Nord Drum 2, Tempest, Tanzbär 1/2
I really like the drum synths in Maschine. Also Digitone, A4, Mictotonic, Sugarbytes Drumcomputer
And Elastic Drums
For me, I would have to say Maschine. For rich people drum machines, definitely Tempest
I really should try making some drum sounds with mine. I’ve mostly used it for leads so far but I bet it’s great for synth drums.
RYTM MK2
with every hit or trig I’d say that.
