Hey all,
I recently bought an “Open Box” Analog RYTM and registered it with elektron. I think I may have figured out why this was a customer return. The function button appears to have a problem with responsiveness. Sometimes it won’t register that i’ve held it down or when I do hold it down it’ll fluctuate between thinking it’s held down/being re-pressed. This is incredibly annoying and noticeable when trying to save/name a kit. I’ll hold function and the letters screen will flicker from the inconsistent hold and select the same letter till it hits the max.
I have opened a ticket with elektron support and am waiting to hear back. Just curious if this is a known issue or anyone else has experienced this?
Firmware is latest and have factory reset fyi.
I don’t believe that is a known issue per se, but it’s entirely possible it’s connected to an assembly issue - having said that, it is way more likely to be dust or spillage or abuse related (if ex-demo - though it should still work fine tbf) - the only constructive point may be to carefully tease the button cap off (research this forum, it’s doable safely) and have a look if there’s any sign of dust/debris/hair/spillage etc - also double check the button cap is not catching on the face plate
You can run the test mode to check all the functionality of the device btw
This seems like something your retailer should take care of, but do wait to hear what Elektron say before going further - it may just need a clean

Thanks for the reply. It isn’t getting stuck or anything it just inconsistently registers when it is being held down. There are no noticeable aesthetic issues that would lead me to think it was dropped or had something spilled on it but definitely could be some dust or something under the button. It’s kinda like a doorbell that inconsistently rings when pushed if you slightly let off the pressure. Are there any posts that detail how to remove buttons on MK1 model?
I bought off reverb and have till end of the week to act on their return. If it’s a simple fix I don’t see a need to return it but definitely a bit peeved that it was sold like new with an issue like this…
One of many posts with pointers, so search a bit more to feel comfortable - I hadn’t appreciated it was Mk1, so it’s possibly an age related issue and/or more likely to be dust/spillage/dry-joint/flaky-button
The buttons are supposed to be relatively easy to replace fwiw if you know anyone with good soldering chops - this would be the solution if it was your existing unit, but as you have a chance to return you’ll need to weigh up your options in terms of getting up and running or waiting for another device at a similar price - a switch is about the easiest thing to rectify without having to send it off, but obviously it requires sourcing one (which Elektron will help with) and having a competent service person in mind if unable to take this on yourself
Have a search for cleaning buttons/switches too - be sure to avoid pitfalls before attempting anything - support will put you right

It has been shipped off to Elektron for repair. Sounds like it’s “mis-triggering”
