Keen to see what the new pc12 is like. Think I’m done with controllers where I have to flip between banks a lot. Gets confusing really quick and values jump every time. Want my set up as wysiwyg as possible.
Thanks for this.
Both of these sound pretty great, I have to say.
I love FaderFox gear, it is top notch.
The new fader version sounds particularly impressive.
Had a small email conversation today with Mathias from Faderfox today, thought maybe some of the people here would be interested in this info as well:
the first will have 82 pots and 13 keys + OLED display
the 2nd one will have 16 faders (100mm) + 21 keys + OLED
all pots and faders have a better resolution (about 1000 steps instead the standard of 128 steps)
I guess the pot controller will come end of september.
the fader controller will follow two months later.
direct to customer is possible too
Refreshing to see a brand not playing the secretive product release game. I will remember this if I ever need a midi controller
Wow sounds interesting.
With keys you/he mean keys like on a keyboard or buttons?
Based on previous Faderfoxes i think buttons.
Sounds great, I really hope they have Bluetooth and a battery option.
Sounds like a design school assignment: scketch a MIDI controller with 82 potenciometers and 13 buttons. How would it look like?
For reference, the PC 12 has 72 pots and 12 buttons.
So I dunno, I want to believe, but I’ll believe it more when there is more proof. ![]()
EDIT: !!! proof in the email screenshot below.
I got a bit of a different information regarding the faderfoxes, there will also be a third device with 32 encoders and 4 OLED Screens, every encoder/poti/fader will habe a resolution of 2000 steps, not 1000 here is the original mail from Mathias:
Well, the email does say 82 pots and 13 buttons, as @Bobermo had said (I’m sorry I doubted! You were of course right.)
“Tasten” is keys and “tastern” is buttons. So confusing!
Not a German native speaker but actually “eine Taste” (femenin) or “ein Taster” (masculine) are synonyms, and they can refer to a synth/controller button, also to a piano or qwerty (qwertz etc) keyboard key [citation needed]. Synonym words with different genders, to make it more confusing to speakers of non-gendered languages like English, what about that? ![]()
In fact, for synths and controllers many actually say “Knopf”, which is a “button” and a word used also and originally for the buttons in clothes. ![]()
Speaking of buttons, I hope Matthias choses better ones than the buttons on the UC4. I love everything about mine except for the small green skittles - they still work, though.
As a M8 user, I also hope he won’t drop the UC4 “power of eight” format. It’s really perfect for this tracker - and probably suits other eightish machines.
When I exchanged a couple of mails with Matthias some time ago, he seemed to suggest he wouldn’t release a new version of this one ![]()
It’s a cool format, but I really didn’t like the sandy encoders. Hope they get a decent upgrade
I have to say using a MX12 + PC12 with my syntakt was a real game changer for me, took a while to program but I have every parameter i need on the faderfoxes now and barely touch the syntakt anymore. I trigger it via Torso T1.
Well, I am certainly not one! One semester of German more than forty years ago. I was just trying to damp speculation that keys as in keyboard keys might be involved. Also, while I am at it, Bluetooth and a battery would be out of character also.
Middle of the year - now we are approaching end of the year - anybody got more news?
A couple days ago, I asked him if there was a new estimated release timeline for the pot controller, and he replied:
“currently I work hard on the firmware which will be finished after two weeks
and finally I have to write the manual
so I guess I can release the pot controller in november.
the first 60 boards are in house”
wished he did the encoder one first - not sure if i like pots - what is your take on pots? Ok more is more -but idkn?
In my opinion, high quality pots like the ones on Faderfox gear, just feel far more responsive with their set min/max values, compared to endless encoders (especially when turning them fast).
For live use, endless encoders can sometimes be better, to avoid parameter jumps when switching between what you are controlling, but I’m not planning on using this new pot controller for playing out live.
I will be primarily using this for mapping many parameters on softsynths, to make them feel more like using actual hardware when sound designing, or just quickly mangling a bunch of parameters at once. I will also be using it with Elektron boxes, because even their own encoders can sometimes feel laggy when doing fast movements like filter sweeps, and definitely not as responsive compared to pots.
TLDR: using pots is just more fun to me. ![]()
