Thanks! I do have it hooked up that way, it’s a lot of fun, just wish I had more time to play with it…
My setup:
DJ mixer to play (mostly) oldschool records the oldschool way
DJ mixer FX send goes to (muted) channel on TX-6 for BPM detection
Synths go into the remaining 5 inputs of the TX-6
TX-6 main out goes to OT in CD
TX-6 MIDI out to OT MIDI in for clock & transport
Drum computer goes to OT in AB
OT running FX template, but I did change it to split the outputs so drum side is on AB and melody on CD each going into a separate channel on the DJ mixer for further EQ and processing using the second FX send
Voila, instant sync between the DJ and live FX Template jamming side.
I have been thinking of modifying your FX template to a mirrored 2 channel DJ performance template in its own right, and hooking up the turntables via a preamp direct to the OT, but that’s for another day as I’m afraid it’ll have me buy another OT
Yes, it comes with instructions in the folder. For faster answers to Octatrack template questions you can join my discord: https://discord.gg/ezbot Everyone here is welcome
Today, I wanted to share a comprehensive Octatrack tutorial that will pave the way for you to design a variety of your own custom riser-type effects for live performances. I use it all the time, it was inspired by SURCO who asked me to design an effect that would help him move from song to song without recording a loop.
Burned at least 2-3 hrs Sat with this. I have always liked the process but have never used anything that works this well. Once I had it set up I messed around making a few scenes and then just tried all sorts of loops that are living on the stock card. Real fun little setup! Thank you EB.
…but this is with a ‘on the grid’ mentality. using rate w/ timestretch is a great way to achieve the result in @mpiecora 's vid… I’m definitely going to incorporate this idea into my ambient sets
I used the same principle a while ago, but with extreme Rate settings !
One track with the loop
Playback Setup > Rate = Timestretch
Copy / paste to the 7 other tracks
T1 - Plock Scene B > Rate = 1
T2 - Plock Scene B > Rate = 2
T3 - Plock Scene B > Rate = 4
T4 - Plock Scene B > Rate = 8
T5 - Plock Scene B > Rate = - 1
T6 - Plock Scene B > Rate = - 2
T7 - Plock Scene B > Rate = - 4
T8 - Plock Scene B > Rate = - 8
This video will show you how and why to sample 8/16/32 bar quantized loops on the Octatrack as well as going over some key features and settings. I made this video a few months ago but I had forgotten a few necessary settings/setups, this video has you covered. Enjoy!
This has me thinking of all the different ways you can combine these settings to slightly improve the sampling workflow for different situations. There is always so much to explore on the Octatrack before you even start making music, hahaha.
Dude thanks for posting. You’re the best! I’m assuming this can’t be done with rec trigs because with the record time set to max the OT would just record for forever?
