Thanks for your help. I’m about to get the digitakt 2 as my first electron device. Im super excited about it. I’ll be sampling from vinyl and using a microphone and lap steel guitar with it. In time I want to add a mother 32 or sub 25. Forgive me if I get some terminology wrong.
My question is this. If I have an external reverb pedal and want to route say tracks 4, 6 and 8 to it (like a sub fx) can I do that? There’s no fx loop. I guess I could send all those tracks to left and the rest to right out but that takes away my stereo sample capability.
Is there a way to do this? Route a track to an external pedal, back into the digitakt then out through the stereo outs? I don’t want a large mixer like the Tascam 12 or ssl big six.
If I need a pedal with midi via usb, midi or something else to make it work I’ll look at other pedals.
Planning to pair it with the microsm and chroma colour potentially. But already have a couple of things from my guitar pedalboard.
I have a second question but I’ll do a second post as it’s a completely separate topic.
I’m guessing you might get feedback … you’d have an output going back into the mix input and there’s no separation between main outs and headphone out …
But you could do it when overbridge comes out and do it digitally.
Thanks for the super prompt replies! Okay I’ll look into overbridge. I might build it all into a flight case with a rack mounted old Mac mini so I can have ableton linked up etc. Might be the answer. Thanks.
Longer term … I’d avoid running things through digitakt 2 unless it’s a simple setup … I wouldn’t do left output via pedals … right via others etc
And if you add more gear - I’d use a mixer or multi input audio card into a daw
Overbridge would allow you do add fx chains etc on each of the 16 audio outputs from digitakt 2, but audio pass through is still only 1 stereo pair / 2 mono .
Octatrack is probably better way to go if you need to go via 1 device with multi inputs and outputs and routable fx chains and sample triggering .
2nd hand they’re cheaper too ( no overbridge on octatrack but please research what overbridge actually is )
You could do what i do with synths, which is to run an interface with mixing capabilities alongside it. I use a MOTU Ultralite mk5, but you could use Audient Evo 16 or whatever.
Let it sit hidden out of the way, connect guitar etc to it, then route to outputs going to pedals and back in, then main out into digitakt 2. Then you can record stereo samples on that, loops or whatever, with fx applied. Then play those back on a loop
Then just play your guitar alongside it going through interface to DT2, and out through it’s mains with the loops
But layering live is painful and much better on octatrack
So annoying, hope they ll fix that with a firmware update. It would be awesome to have a cue, either on main or headphones so we can send different tracks on them without loosing that stereo goodness
