Expressive E Noisy 2 - MPE Update

Nice update, a few new MPE tricks with Trig Control (great with Osmose but was nice with PUSH 3 as well)

Is anyone using this one with the Linnstrument? I’m struggling to understand how to make it react to the Y axis. Plus it seems to ignore pitch bend.
I’m using Bitwig as a host.

Point to check :

  • Did you enable mpe in the bw track ? ( Off by default )
  • Did you enable mpe in noisy ? ( Off by default )
  • Did you configure midi channel input -> Same ( 1 by default )
  • Did you check the “convert pitch bend to expression” ( On by default )
  • Did you configure the pbend range in noisy ? ( 1 or 2 by default )
  • Do you have a correctly configured controller script ? Driven by moss highly recommended…

Hope this helps.

On Linnstrument, have you activated MPE mode?

2) ChPerNote (Channel Per Note, also called MPE for MIDI Polyphonic Expression)
Each touch is sent on its own unique MIDI channel, permitting independent 3D control for each simultaneous touch. Played notes are rotated through the assigned Per-Note Channels (see “MIDI Channels” below). Messages common to all notes (like Program Change, Sustain/CC64 or Volume/CC7) are sent over the Main channel, or if no Main channel is selected, redundantly over all Per Note Channels.

Hidden Setting: set all settings for MPE synths
Hold this button for more than 1/2 second to instantly change other relevant Per-Split Settings for MPE compatibility. The button’s light will turn light blue and these settings will be set as follows:

Left split: Main Ch 1, Per-Note Chs 2-8
Right split: Main Ch 16, Per-Note Chs 9-15
Bend Range: 48 (This uses the hidden setting “Any Bend Range”. See “Bend Range” heading below.)
Timbre/Y: CC74
Loudness/Z: Chan Pres

Also, LinnStrument will send a MIDI Remote Activation message (RPN 6), which will remotely set an MPE sound generator to MPE mode and set its channels and Bend Range to match LinnStrument’s.

Note that if LinnStrument receives such a message from a synth, it will select Channel Per Note mode and set its Per-Note Channels and Bend Range to match the values in the received message.

Thank you, so that’s what I was doing wrong! I’m still new to Bitwig and to MPE, and I’ve only used it with the built-in Polymer synth, where I can just assign expression.

Nope, haven’t tried it. I don’t see the Linnstrument in supported models though.

Now I just have to figure out how to change the presets so that aftertouch and timbre are independent, as far as I understand the default settings are tailored to the Osmose, as mentioned by Roger here (for some reason I can’t create an account there).

You don’t have to do anything. They are already independent, and in my opinion, they sound good enough using the Roli Rise 49. However, they are still summed up in the dynamic envelope, but since this is such an integral and specific part of noisy 2, I’m not sure you can change much. Now, some tweaking can surely make them sound better with the lynn, and I did enjoy tweaking the factory presets for my taste.
