according to the drawings of Heli 2 on the second page here there seems to be enough space to put both devices as Perkons’ height is 90 mm high, and Syntrx II - 115 mm.

About 5cm of clearance in the back and 7cm near the front, measuring to roughly the top of the support surface that the Perkons is resting on.

(FWIW, the Heli 2 is my favorite synth stand. It can hold anything from a Roland Boutique up to the Perkons and Syntrx. The angle is ideal (for me). Materials look and feel good, and it folds up nicely)

Replying to you here because I didn’t want to promote too much GAS in the downsizing thread heh :smiley:

Perkons can definitely also save and recall stuff accurately once you get the hang of how it works (similar to the elektron right of passage some of us went through of accidentally deleting our best work.

But the kits/patterns are just the banks of 64 steps each. That visual nature, combined with no naming titles and how snappy / quick it is to change them on the fly have it feeling more like tool meant to be played with than a rigid archival file system.

Essentially you can link/unlink patterns and kits globally. Kits are a lot like scenes from AR in that you can instantly switch between majorly or subtly different parameter states.

It’s been awesome to build up a few similar kits of increasing intensity, pattern chain a good variety of grooves and then swap around different kits on the fly. You can store the BBD time settings in the kit, so that can be a really fun way to snap between different delay pings and send levels for interesting dubby risers and fills.

I’m having a blast and I’m saving more content / branching out with my jams more than I have on previous boxes I’ve used.

The soft-fit Decksaver is worth it. Same design as the Syntrx decksaver - foam pads on the sides to protect the soft wood trim.

Voice 3 for sure. Forgot what algo. It’s the same one that also makes my favorite kicks on the box.

I’m using V4 sample for kick here with the bit crush but usually I’ll be using voice 3 for kicks.

It’s that algo that makes really good toms, snares and kicks.

Thinking of moving my AR2 on and took a brief look at the Perkons, Thomann price £1577. Can’t afford that. Used eBay/Reverb prices? £1460 is the cheapest :clown_face:

Wot planet are these folk on? Presumably they love the device and don’t really want to sell.

eBay you now negotiate people waaay down on their asking price. But this isn’t reflected in the final selling price when you look at completed listings.

At least, that’s what happened to me as a seller recently. No biters unless it’s a low ball.

The bpm is unfortunately not savable within a pattern, it is global. Just saying.

Yeah, I’d like that as an option. I appreciate the tempo global as is since I can revisit any old pattern and it will likely flow during a jam. But having that as an option would be nice.

I 3D printed a stand for my Perkons, along with new side bumpers. Figured I’d keep the original sides pristine in case I decide to sell it later, which seems improbable.

This shit is what it’s all about. Had to share this Perkons setup I just started exploring with Bitwig.

I’m further into the honeymoon and have only grown to love Perkons more. I feel I learned to carve more versatility out of its raw sound engine with time.

That being said, it is still mono and still has a certain “sound.” While this a huge strength in my book, it would be nice to be able to cover up some of its shortcomings by other means.

The overall gear setup I’m building is very limited. I want boxes that are simpler and do less so that they push me to carve my own unique solutions. That’s a big part of why I went all in on the Perkons over the more advanced elektron boxes I’ve owned, and I’m happy to report its working.

I detail the setup a bit here. This is just a rough demo, but the concept can be expanded exponentially with the modulators in Bitwig.

Basically I’m using the Perkons audio to live trigger additional midi drums and using various modulators to alter that midi drum triggering.

This is not a mind bending new technique, but I usually just see it used to literally replace crappily recorded drums. It can be really fun to use it in an additive way to fill out what my drum machine lacks in real time, leaning on and adapting to the performative side of Perkons.

I could go further with arps, randomness, chance, etc, all on the midi side in Bitwig. I like working with the Perkons mono out, but your latitude for control increases dramatically if you choose individual outs as well.

I’m going to explore multi-banding this concept so I can get different sounds triggering and glitch effects reacting to sonic build ups up in different ranges of the perkons out. (You could easily sidechain a delay glitch to the deepest kicks. Etc)

While I can, and will, go into the deep end with this. It’s really fucking nice and simple to rig up if I just want a lively shaker or organic ride like sound to play in time with whatever mayhem I’m cranking out from the perkons.

Have you explored indiviual outs from Perkons?? Guess like Elektrons you lose some magic this way

I purchased a PERKONS recently and wanted to share that I think it’s amazing. It all made sense once I approached it as a rhythmic synthesiser… all the ‘limitations’ are now the reasons why it’s so good for performance. Adding and deleting notes from the sequencer, changing the track length, assigning parameters to the LFO, the LFO speed and depth, parameter locks, control all, copy and pasting trigs, drones, tempo change, mutes, trig odds and probability, recording automation etc… all of these things can be achieved with the same immediacy with which I play guitar and drums. This is truly the first rhythmic and sequencer based electronic device that feels like a true instrument to me.

Played a gig last night and used the Perkons do improvise an ambient drone set before our main act. Was a lot of fun. Track 1 is used as a low bass drone, Track 2 as the high melody notes (changing pitch using the tune knob and opening the filter to hear the notes), Track 3 is doing a kick and woodblock kind of sound and Track 4 starts as a drone and then is a rhythmic synth part playing 16th notes. Track 3 send is going to one input of the zoia with a short decay hall reverb. The other three tracks are going through the main out into the other zoia input through a long decay plate reverb. Occasional twiddles from a Reface CP. I love it.

Hello,

I’m just unboxing my perkons and I’m very surprised for the extremely low output levels; it happens in the individual voices, in the master output and in the phones output. Firmware is updated.

I had read that a lot of people complaing about those leves, but it is hard for me to believe this is normal and I would like to know if it’s my unit that it’s even lower. Without the compressor, even with all volumes up I don’t have a normal output in my headphones. From the regular output, I need to add 30db on gain in my RME in order to have it at a minimum reasonable output.

I would appreciate your inputs and experiences with it, and if it is too exaggerated in my device. Thanks in advance
