Envelope Oddity

ok so with the envelope shapes 8-11 (the ones with percussive attack) there is something which strikes me as a little odd.

If the attack extends over the gate length of the note, instead of starting the release phase from maximum as expected, it will make a sharp cut and start the release at a lower level.

here’s a waveform from 2 identical sounds with only the amp attack parameter being wide open in the lower recording:

anyone have a good guess whether this is supposed to be like that?

here’s a recording where the attack value of the 2nd waveform is lower, it ends a tiny bit before the gate closes, evrything else is identical:

I can’t help but I’m really interested to see those recordings.

Not to want to hijack the thread, can anybody point me to a description of each envelope shape? It’s not immediately obvious from looking at the little diagrams.

keep in mind that the last 4 envelope shapes are different beasts altogether - i wouldn’t call them percussive myself, the attack phase defines an initial period of max output - if you release before the decay phase is reached the release phase will commence (not from the top) - you can hear the difference (select pitch as a destination for env2 and use regular (&longer) ‘open’ amp & filter envelopes ) and hold for longer than the e2 ‘attack’ phase ! it will drop as expected if you get into the decay phase - i don’t think it is a bug ! albeit that the example you present seems odd - the envelope models don’t need to follow real world expectation - just try it (hold post attack) with a sustain of zero initially (decay too) and then with an intermediate sustain level to get some nice ‘unnatural’ stepping (adjust decay to get multistage envelopes !) - very powerful flexibility #notbuggybutawesome
