Entering notes in Grid Mode (noob question)

Hello Elektronauts! Elektronoob here, just got my M:S.

When I am in Grid Mode (step sequencer) I find it quite difficult to enter notes. Right now I am setting the note then parameter-locking the Pitch and it’s good enough but it’s a real pain, and doesn’t “feel” like the right way to do it.

The manual (page 23) suggests using an external MIDI controller, which also doesn’t feel right: I bought the Samples specifically so I can get creative without a table full of gear.

I tried using Live Record mode (the trig keys are “keyboard” enough for my current needs) – but then if I make a mistake it’s hard to correct it.

What’s the best way to do this?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

If you really are parameter-locking the pitch knob, there’s something you’ve missed. While in grid recording mode, hold down the trig and then you can use the level/data knob to set note and velocity.

Yes! That’s what I was looking for. Thank you so much!

Kinda wish it would play the note when I select it but I’ll take what I can get.

Happy New Year!
