Hi all,
After 2 weeks or so of beta testing for encoder audio and just having some straight up fun with this M4l device its time to provide a few demos in a sound cloud playlist: https://soundcloud.com/black-and-gol…-audio-m4l-buchla-synth-beta-testing
Of course these are not tracks per say but examples of the new product. Some of the examples are from a large bank of patches/presets I have contributed for the release. I have no affiliation with encoder audio; I just have a love of synths. I was initially inspired by the quality of the other encoder audio products. Purchased them all and went from there… https://encoderaudio.wordpress.com
My overview on the buchla inspired M4L synth is as follows:
Low cpu. One of if not the best analog in-the-box devices i have experienced; for some context, I use the best of the best emus: creamware synths, nebula, roland vstis, togu audio, reaktor alongside my analog. I hate cpu hogs synths and dislike most of the ****ty vstis on the market
The oscillator pitches down very well with bassy and ballsy analog tone, which seems to drift with various mod options of course
The envelope generator/ASDR offers nice smooth scope for fading and lowering/long release sounds
The low pass gate offset tracks very well and is ‘musical’
The fm is really analog ‘smooth’/round. Much like a sputnik VCO. There is a smooth option which you can pull back for more angular sounds. i.e for some context: Make noise dpo is very angular aggressive at times as opposed to sputnik which is rounder and smoother. So best of both worlds here!!!
I love the note locking options as I play notes from my moog sub phatty and then started sequencing with my monomachine – this really created random madness. Also the encoder audio random source, sequencer and other tools perfectly blend with the synth.
Timbre is very analog sounding – great analog eurorack tones.
The vco waveshape blends all waves together and feels/sounds analog
The low pass gate offers really nice buchla pings and the vactrol control option is fab. I’d put it right up there with my dual LPG buchla euro clone any day.
low cpu use mean you can simply duplicate the device in ableton for some poly action and also create extremely complex VCOs
Finally, well done to encoder audio, a lot of work has gone into this excellent product. thumbs up Well done to all indy developers in 2015 whom just seem to doing it so much better than the larger vst synth developers.
Feel free to ask any questions.
