Enco/audio automation software

Does anyone have any experience with Enco or similar radio automation software?

I’m interviewing for a job at a radio station and the only thing they talk about in the job description that I’m not very familiar with is Enco. I like to think I’m very tech savvy/learn stuff fast. I’m fluent with all the standard DAWs and can find my way around most video editing software as well. Will Enco be out of my depth or is it pretty intuitive for someone like me?

If they are specifically using DAD, I can say it’s reasonably easy to use although I have only very minor hands-on knowledge of it.

Well that’s good news  what context did you get to use it in?

I was doing an internship approximately a thousand years ago at a local radio station which was considering moving from RCS to DAD at the time, I would guess due to either licensing or hardware. As the greenhorn with no knowledge of either, I was tasked with poking around for a few weeks to see if DAD was easier to use than RCS even for someone completely new to both systems and thus without any bias whatsoever.

Mind you I wasn’t interning there for this reason at all, and I wouldn’t be able to tell you if either option was actually any good in production. I do however remember DAD being quite easy to understand and operate. No idea if they changed solutions or used something else on the market.

I doubt they expect you to have experience with it, but it might show a little initiative if you chat with a sales person for Enco and get a demo?

Interesting… All my experience is in live/studio/pro audio kind of audio engineering stuff, I admittedly have never even really given much thought to audio software in a broadcast setting, it’s cool to learn about this different world of audio technology. When my naive self listens to the radio I pretty much just imagine the operator playing records the way I do at home lol.

That’s a good idea, I was looking around for a way to try it on my machine at home but I couldn’t find much. Didn’t think about reaching out to them directly

Yeah, I can’t say how quickly you could get something scheduled, but people are generally cool if you’re polite and don’t waste their time or ask for something unreasonable.

Maybe there’s a demo, or they can assign you a 1m trial license, but “hey, I’m working in the broadcast field however I have not been trained on your software yet and would like to get a small amount of experience for where I would like to end up.”

Hah! I’m sure ClearChannel/IHeartRadio or whatever just pre-renders their rotation with some internal tool.

KEXP though, I really need to get a tour arranged :[

It’s been forever since my college radio days…
