Elk-herd 3.0 beta: Project Import at last!

I’m sorry you’re having problems. I would suggest DT settings of just MIDI via USB:

  • Settings > MIDI Config > Port Config > Input From = USB
  • Settings > MIDI Config > Port Config > Output to = USB

Setting them to “MIDI + USB” will make all the transfers unbearably slow, though shouldn’t result in errors.

Remember that these settings are stored with each project, so if you load a project to work with it, you’ll have to go check again that these are set back to USB only.

If after setting to USB you still have the problems, I’d love to take a look at your project files. In particular, could you:

  • Fetch a project, save it to a file called “Fetched Project”
  • Delete the unused samples and reogranize as you like, then save it to a file again before sending, called “Reorganized Project”
  • Send the file to the Digitakt, then Fetch it again, and finally save that to a file called “Transferred Project”.
Then DM me all those files (or DM me for an e-mail to send them to).

Thank you very much sir!
Seems to work better now. I‘ll let you know via DM if it is still not working for me.

another question: Is it already possible to delete samples from the Takt that are not used in any project? I did not find the option bit i do know, that you are working on.

Your app is really helping me, cleaning up my Takt. Grazie!

This is an often requested feature, and one I’d love myself… But - the current Digitakt OS doesn’t give elk-herd access to any but the current loaded project. So there is no way to query the samples used by the projects stored on the +Drive. I’ve discussed this with Elektron, and they know of the need - and I hope will make such access available in a future Digitakt OS.

Is it possible to.

Download and archive (project , sounds , samples ) each project .
Blank digitakt
Re-download each project archive to get things back on digitakt.

A slight long way to do it, but could work with things as they exist.?
The sounds could get added to bank A onwards
The samples could either maintain their folder or get dumped into project specific folders

By the sounds of it, once 3.1 is released we ought to be able to archive both the project and the samples that it uses. I’m hoping that once I’ve gone through all my projects I should be able to wipe the DT - delete all the unused samples and then start afresh.

It is bizarre that Elektron is effectively relying on a third party to get this relatively straight forward aspect of the DT working.

The Swedes obviously have no interest in doing this themselves.
They should just hire M-Zero at this point and create an official release…

thats what many of us hope to see.

its these details that will make me even more cautious in the future if i´d want to get a new box or not.

But DT makes for a exquisite midi2CV sequenzer with a FH-2 behind it.
No hassle with any samples, haha.

Can we please get likes on this!

Hey mzero,
i finally made it, took me some hours but now the Takt is reorganized with all my projects.
I did a lot of fetching, importing and sending back. The Digitakt didn‘t ‚recieve Settings‘ most of the time, so i had to retry a couple of times or start a new project to make the Takt recieve the settings.
So now I‘d like to reorganize the sample folders and your app says that it is possible without messing up the projects, right?
Oh man, im so thankful for your app, greetings!

Sorry to hear about the receive functionality not going smoothly… do you know if your project perhaps had Settings > MIDI Config > Port Config > Input From set to MIDI or MIDI+USB in those projects? Also, if you could private message me the details of your DT to computer set up that’d be great.

Yes, you can definitely reorganize the samples and folders on the +Drive to your heart’s content and not mess up the projects.

I just cleaned up a project yesterday, moving patterns between banks, renaming them, and cleaning up all unused samples. What a fantastic app. It’s so easy and intuitive to use.

One question. After this cleanup, empty patterns have no samples assigned. Normally they have the default 1-8 slots loaded, but they’re empty. I actually prefer this, but is it intended? Did I do something to cause it?

Hrm… they should have been set to sample slots 1 thru 8, just like the standard default “empty” pattern. However, if you left nothing in slots 1 thru 8, then they will appear as no sample assigned.

I shall investigate further.

Would be cool to choose if you want empty or filled as the default. No idea if this is even possible tho.

i just had my first go at Elk-Herd, and, oh my, was that nice and easy.

…organized a huge mess in 20 minutes or less!

thank you, @mzero!!

Fantastic tool!

I needed to rearrange patterns in the same project spread across different banks, and it was super easy to do that with Elk-herd 3.

Thanks again @mzero!

Best regards,

Gino

Hi Mzero!

Do you plan to make a model samples version of Elk-herd?
It look amazing, i hope we could have the same for M:S.

Congratulations for your work!

In the process of importing a project from one DT to another. Such a breeze. Really loving this @mzero.

One issue I came across (not a big issue):
When you have Elk herd open and save a project on the DT, then use fetch project, it will say it couldn’t fetch the project because not every pattern was selected. When reloading the project on the DT it works again.

Happened twice but cannot reproduce it consistently. Will report back when I can.

Cheers

Edit: might have been me simply fetching a bit too quickly after saving.

Maybe an interesting function could be ‘replace sample’ to replace one sample slot with another sample slot within a project. I find now when combining patterns that I used 2 similar 909 hihats for instance and want to replace all grooves using 1 with the other to save another sample slot

THIS IS BRILLIANT!!! Does it work with Digitone? :stuck_out_tongue:
