Another vote against AI. Environmentally and ethically (all that stolen training data) it’s bad news.
As musicians, we should be very aware of these models sucking up our work.

Sure, just wanted to point out possible options for our overbridgelords to ponder .
On the surface it will probably be things that are useful and seem harmless, just stuff like better native translation and maybe stuff that helps compose responses in English. Better site search functions and better suggestions from the search. The forward-facing part of it is not the issue.
The backend where it datalogs everything and learns your posting habits etc. is the part that I don’t like, and I don’t think it’s optional. Or rather, I don’t understand how it can be. All site content (and our contributions to it) I’m pretty sure that we have all already virtually consented to it’s external (or internal) use.
I can’t figure out how to phrase it correctly but our content (in the sense of what we post) already belongs to them.
I just wrote a long post with various arguments and whatnot, but I realised it’s just going to cause a fight and that’s not why I come here.
I’ll just say this - based on the general pleasant tone of this forum and the way it’s managed with an even hand, I think we ought give the admins the benefit of the doubt.
Any changes to the actual server infrastructure? Seems like this place is down quite often.
Not sure when, or if concurrent, but this is a planned enhancement too
looking forward to the chat room!
I would also strongly prefer not activating any AI features.
Any AI would only be for your possible gain. Elektron has no interest of using AI for our purposes. Just so you know. You can read at discourse.org to understand what it might bring to the table.
Any AI/LLM that helps people identify apparently different topics like DT1 presets don't back up on DT2
is actually the same thing as transfer read permission error
has got to be a bonus.
I read through the list of features. I personally don’t want any of them. Even the prompts that appear in my preview window currently are mostly annoying. I don’t mind if others want to use these features, as long as I can opt out and they are not in my face constantly.
I don’t think that’s a user selectable option on platform wide plugins. But it would be much appreciated.
After my earlier reply, I did go and look at the Discourse AI features. I guess I’d have to see them in practice to know, but it doesn’t seem like anything too crazy. Some of the Discourse features are ones I’d be fine without.
I also have basically never seen anything much to complain about with the administration of this forum, so I’ll wait to see how it is and give my feedback afterwards I’m happy to be getting an update and appreciate the work it takes to keep a site like this going.
I do think it’d be great to let people disable features they don’t want. It’s quite apparent that many users want nothing to do with anything AI-related (especially if it’s named as such) and, although my feelings aren’t quite so crystallized, I think having options is always better.
They should stop using the internet then because all search engines using ai under the hood. And many other ai applications which these users use every day.
Oh yes, they also should sell their phones and use something dumb, not iOS/Android.
AI/ML stuff is far older and has far wider use than recent LLM hype.
I understand this possibility, but it seems that many of the uses involve a button I have to click or a feature I have to invoke, and I can just not do that. I was worried about search degrading, for example, but AI Search seems to be optional.
Wonderful!
yuck. i thought a niche music forum would be one of the last places where this crap would seep in.
Save time, summarize!
Don’t have time to read through a long and involved topic? Let AI help you summarize the topic in a matter of seconds.
who actually wants stuff like this? it’s just coming up with a solution to a nonexistent problem.
i’m here to read posts by actual people.
idk, reading through that discourse ai page made me legitimately sad.
imagine if everyone here would filter their posts through some LLM to make it more “professional” or “friendly” or whatever. what a nightmare.
This “format” is the best forum out there, so I can’t hardly imagine it getting any better. Bring it on!
for me that’s not the point, I don’t share my personal knowledge and experience with a search engine, I love sharing these with a community of actual people, granting unlimited access to money driven 3rd party to profit from this is not something I’d want and I’m probably not going to share anything personal with the platform anymore.
if you read into the whole Discourse AI presentation/details every feature relies on context, meaning for every feature like summarize, search, related topics, chat thread titles, etc., the whole context goes to a provider of choice to create results, there’s no control over who’s content being shared with the LLM provider.
you can opt out from using AI search or summaries, but it doesn’t matter, even if one person uses these features the content is being shared with the LLM so eventually it scans everything and all of that data goes into the hands of corporations behind these products.
you are correct though, it’s inevitable and eventually being pushed down the throat regardless if you agree with this or not, I guess it doesn’t bother a lot of people, but for me personally I’d rather not have my stuff being shared involuntarily with these companies.
+1 to any feature additions that make the process of sharing and finding information/opinions better and and more efficient.
