Elektron Rytm MkII Downgrade

This one has me completly confused. How can the very very latest model in the new wowser black ship with an older firmware. I don’t think this is good practice. Didnt the model get released at the same time as the new firmware?

I just had a closer look, the Octatrack mk2 seems to be glossy, digis are matt and the analog mk2s look satin half gloss/Matt… I’m guessing the black mk2 is the same satin finish

Yeah… so 5 different finishes on the market… I don’t like. I like conformity. This triggers my OCD  Ok now end of OT. Offtopic. Not :elot:. Of course.

The analogs mkII don’t use a metal sheet case, as the Digitakt, but a custom Aluminium case. You can clearly see the difference in construction when looking at the edges.
Metal sheets are usually powder coated, which is a great and robust finish with a matte surface. It is a process that works with magnetism, it doesn’t work with Aluminium.
Hence the new mkII‘s are spray painted, like a car. It‘s impossible to make both finishes look 100% the same.
Just a wild guess because currently I own neither.

i don’t think the OP’s unit shipped with older firmware. it sounds like he did a factory reset or reinstall. if that’s the case, the only firmware that will likely work is the current one. i don’t think i’d want to try an earlier firmware on the box, but the links/downloads may still exist.
