Elektron parameter locks - and modular!

Hey everyone - finally got my first Elektron box, the Digitakt!

I absolutely love the parameter locks in this thing. Currently I have it controlling my MS20 Mini for basic sequencing, and soon controlling a reverb pedal’s parameters - but it got me thinking. Those of you with modular setups, have you considered using the Digitakt’s parameter locking CC values on the midi tracks as CV sources? How do you convert them, and what’s the best thing to use?

I’ve been looking at the CV.OCD but it only has 4 CV outputs, and a lot of very expensive modular options with irrelevant features (looking at you, Yarns) and I’d be keen on utilising more than half a DT midi track of CC parameter locks.

What do you guys use to make your DT (or other Elektron boxes) act like a “master controller” for your modular/analogue synths?

I’m using an iConnectivity mio10 box for all my MIDI routing so I just added an Expert Sleepers FH-1 on the second host port and route either MM or OT (or any other MIDI really) to it when needed. A quick change of mio preset and I can have modular clocking everything instead of the OT etc. There are probably simpler options if you do not have such a MIDI router, but for me it was easiest to drop in the FH-1.

You can expand it up to 64 outputs too, which is nice

Yep. Expert Sleepers FH-1 and FHX-1 (for more outputs) and a iConnectMidi4+ for me.

But for the Digitakt you don’t need a midiinterface. USB straight into FH-1 will do the trick. I made some videos touching on your subject.

My favourite youtuber responds! I had actually watched both these videos but I didn’t “click” them together - and I definitely didn’t realise you could output midi through USB on the DT (oops!) so this makes so much sense. The fact the outputs can do gates AND CV is wonderful too - I’m trying to make a very small “instrument” based around Braids, Rings, Warps and Rainmaker (ie “stuff you can ONLY do w/ modular”) and this not only fits perfectly into 104HP but has more than enough outputs to moduate my MS20 as well.

Cheers!

Now you’re making me blush! :heavy_heart_exclamation:

I got this [http://midimuso.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/IMG_20170723_174514.jpg]

https://www.ebay.ie/itm/KIT-Midimuso-MIDI-to-CV-Converter-12-Channel-Moog-1-1-2-and-0-5-Volts-Oct/142630569864?hash=item213571c788:g:0y4AAOSw3mdZdNZ7

and made this

a 12 channel MIDI to CV converter
Outputs:
12 Analogue outputs - 0 - 10V (Moog volts / octave system)
6 Gate outputs - 0 - 5V

Channel stability: 0.2% at 5 Volts i.e. 1/50 semitone.
Supply current: (unloaded) 22 mA
Power: (unloaded) 0.264 Watts
Range: 8 octaves

EUR 28 for the board + a maplin case and jacks, some soldering and it’s great!

It also offers different set-ups for how you allocate your midi to cvs/gates

I use my Octatrack (old skool vintage MK 1) as a master clock and sequencer for my Eurorack via Yarns.

Works well!

Anyone here actually using a modular system with their Digitakt? If so, how are you using the two together?

Post videos and/or pics if you got them! :star_struck:

This is my plan too with a self-built modular using MIDI to CV converters from MIDIsizer.

In the meantime have a look at https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=f8sivusPsmw

Endorphines Shuttle Control is well worth looking at. Did a lot of research on this topic, and Shuttle Control won due to being able to smooth cc values, which gets around 0-127 midi resolution issues. And can power modules using it too

Each output can be a long list of different types of functions.

And of course can p-lock cc values, and then convert using Shuttle Control for use in your modular.

It is pretty expensive however, but thought I’d suggest checking it out  Works flawlessly. And their support is up there with the best I’ve contacted, within the modular world.

You might want to check this out if you haven’t seen it:
