Hello everyone,
I have an Octatrack mk1 that won’t boot (it is stuck on the boot logo, os is 1.31), and when I run the test mode, everything is fine except on the RTC line where it’s written clkerr. Has anyone had this error and fixed it ? I don’t want to send it back to Elektron, it would be too expensive for me. I have some skills in electronics, and I’m just looking for some people that had the same issue.
I have also located the rtc chip on the board which is a DS1390U 33. I wonder if I have to change it or if I could fix it in a way.
Thanks in advance for helping me,
Ogust.
I’m gonna assume that means “clock error” which can be pretty scary.
I don’t know where in the machine the clock is being generated.
Did you try removing and firmly re-seating all the connector cables? Sometimes OT connector/ribbon cables wiggle loose and so certain signals are not properly transmitted throughout the machine.
Realtime clock is battery backed, probably just the coin cell needs replacing, try that first.
I’ve tried unplugging everything and plugging back, same as before. I also tried to change the battery, the problem is still the same
Check for signs of battery leakage corrosion? If you have hot air pencil/fine tip iron try reflowing RTC pins?
Battery is clean, the battery socket too. I don’t have anything to do some soldering now, but I’m gonna try it by the end of the lockdown if I haven’t fixed it yet. I am planning on replacing the rtc chip with a brand new one.
I tried to clean the rtc chip’s pins with alcohol, nothing changes
Looks like rtc replacement is probably worth trying, be sure to post any progress you make.
It might be worth enquiring to Elektron support to see if they have any suggestions, you might be able to buy a new pcb from them although it might be cost prohibitive.
Elektron told me they were going to ask their technicians if there is something I can do by myself. I’ll ask them if they could send a new board and what would the price be, if the RTC replacement is a failure.
Thanks for your advice
i’ll keep you updated.
Heyy ! I tried to change the RTC chip, and it didn’t change anything. So I ordered a new pcb for my octatrack, everything is working fine now
The price for the pcb was 380€, quite expensive though
How was the process to install the new PCB ? Did you have to unsolder everything from the previous one and resolder piece by piece to the new PCB ?
I’m having RTC CLK ERR too
