Elektron Monomachine synthesizer Review by MIDERA

Hi all,

I made a review for the Monomachine (see here). It’s not so much a technical review per se, but a lot of these reviews are just my personal journeys with them and some of my thoughts as well. I hope you find it interesting!

And now the time has come to pay it forward and sell me your monomachine for $250 :face_holding_back_tears:

Ha! Yeah… I think in one of my posts here the person who sold it to me actually connected with me again. I thought that was cool! They were the one that sold me the $250 one (that had the boot issue). But yeah… I’ll probably pay it forward to my kids some day, I am sorry. Eventually it won’t boot and won’t be worth anything, so - I guess there’s something to consider. I at least use mine semi-regularly!

All jokes, of course. It was a wonderful read, and nice jams!!

Thanks, Midera😎

Really enjoyable to read. And an impressive colllection of MNM tracks (as mentioned in my former comments: a Bandcamp release would be an awesome option to listen to that great music, instead of being blasted by YT adds),

Bueromaschinen‘s Miss You:

And your‘s Wandering - Wondering:

Were the reasons to buy this machine in 2021.

It‘s a pleasure to see people making music on the machine, instead of selling it for 3k🖖

Cheers

I got tricked, this is as much a review of Youtube as the Monomachine . Fun read, thanks for sharing!

100% agree with everything said about youtube though.

If you’re in YouTube archaeology mode adding “before:2010” filters out modern toss.

There’s some nice old silver box vids to be found, I’ve seen most but always keen to hear if anyone finds any that didn’t use “machinedrum” or “monomachine” in the title. There’s some mythical jams out there with >50 views, I’m sure of it.

A man after my own heart. In my archive trawls I’ve developed a bit of a theory that the machine that democratized bedroom jams (all genres) more than any other in the lifespan of YouTube was the MPC1000.

Yeah I shared one I found in the mpc thread that’s a right banger. No one cared tho…:face_holding_back_tears:

Ha - yeah, that video by pongfu just made me think about YT and my feelings towards it. Sigh… those were better days, sort of. Some times my own videos throw ads at me (I don’t monetize my channel but some videos are linked to my cdbaby releases and they’re automatically monetized) and I hate that. Only happens on my phone, but still.

And all those thumbnails with peoples faces and their reaction to “gear” ugh, I could go on but won’t.

Thanks for reading it

Thanks!

That’s an awesome suggestion. I wonder if there’s an option to do before:monetization search -_-

I bet there’s a ton of good stuff using these boxes. Reminds me of one of my other favorite jams which was a guy sipping a drink and then jamming out on an electron’s and an MC-909… damn that was so good.

You’re probably right about the MPC1000, but I was late to the party, I only got into writing electronic music with synthesizers (used to use GarageBand and fl studio) around 2011 when I learned about the Spectralis. Actually I have my cats to thank because they broke my $50 m-audio midi controller I used with my computer and when I went to guitar center I learned about “real” synthesizers. That first one that blew me away was the Microkorg. Didn’t buy it, but it looked and sounded cool!

Thanks!!! I love the monomachines. They’re so interesting and sound good in poly or mono mode. There’s something about how well they mix with reverb pedals too, I think it’s part of the “thinness” people describe. Personally, they’re still among my favorite synths/grooveboxes I own.

I have some releases with my mono machine stuff, but it’s all scattered, however, I have made about 5 tracks in the last week, maybe I’ll work on making a full album of my latest stuff…

Thanks!
