I just called Bonnier Capital and asked for DN replacement keys and the lady I spoke with had no idea what I was talking about!

Not good way to start out!

Hmm. The ‘exits’ page on their investments page ‘Investments - Bonnier Capital’ looks ominous - clearly a firm that’s only looking to extract value from its portfolio - sell and move on. I predict disaster in about 4 years from now. Well at least Trump didn’t start WWIII today so we should all be happy.

Private equity poisons everything it touches. When the sole purpose of a company is to generate capital, everything else suffers. I can’t think of a single consumer electronics company that got acquired by PE and came out better for it. PE strips away the soul of an organization because money, at the end of the day, is soulless, even when it’s objectively useful within the system we live in.

tbh, I’ve been looking for an excuse to jump ship for a while. My Elektron stuff has been boxed up for months, as I mostly use my M8 for everything these days. I held out thinking I’d regret letting it all go, but that’s no longer the case. Oh well, money in the bank para mi.

Thanks for the memories, Elektron. Y’all had a hell of a run.

I’m sure this is good news for the investors, but as an American who’s watched endless acquisition cycles, I’d be a fool to assume this will be positive for the employees or for us as customers. It’s usually a slow decline. I imagine it’ll take a few years before we see how damaging this acquisition actually is. Hopefully Tonverk gets fully sorted before the products and firmware updates start to slide.

Marx spoke about the coercive law of competition; even if a business owner doesn’t want to play the hyper-extractive game, they have to or their competitors will win and they’ll be out of business.

CDM has a suitably pessimistic article up on the purchase. Elektron is the latest firm to be acquired by private investment capital - CDM Create Digital Music

Yeah they’ve been quite open about it, many big names have tried and they’ve not been interested.

This is interesting developments. I wonder how Elektron was doing financially for them to consider this, especially given how things are going around the world right now.

Maybe that’s it. They see the way the world’s going short to medium term and want financial muscle to stay in the game through it all

ffs, what next? a stand at Eurovision

not good based on my experience with tech companies and private equity firms. Hopefully Erica Synths and Girts stay private as they appear to be one of the purest new synth makers still around.
