Anybody using one of these? ( Electro-Harmonix Epitome Reverb/Flanger/Octave Multi-Effect Pedal)
I’m ‘kind of’ thinking about getting in to FX pedals for experimentation’s-sake, and I know absolutely nothing about them (well, I know what they’re for in ‘some’ cases --> seems to be a world of its own).
This one is a multi-effect, which I like the idea of for some versatility, and seems relatively well-reviewed.
I’m also debating a delay but there are a zillion of those, so I’m limiting myself to just one to start with, used, and this one sounds fantastic for what it does on various example videos.
The immediate instruments for use are (but not limited to):
- Korg Monologue
- some direct out on various drum synths… the synth parts most likely
- Modal Skulpt SE
- maybe some mixer-magic of groups of things
I got the EHX Tone Tattoo which is Delay, Chorus, and Distortion. It is nice to have 3 effects in one pedal. I tend to use the Zoom 70cdr more than the EHX though.
Thanks. I’m looking at the Tone Tattoo now too, but in addition to rather than instead of.
It seems perfect for mangling something like my LXR-02.
This guy is sort of on of the inspirations for getting something going on these in the first place:
Hoping this doesn’t turn into a whole new level of GAS. I’m supposed to NOT buy any new gear in 2024. Thus the push to get one or two things before the end of the year.
Haaa pedals.
You hope this does not become a whole new level of GAS? Stay away from them
Jokes apart, I like some EHX FX and the Epitome is amongst the ones I wanted at some point. One of the reasons is that it is a bit more than the sum of its parts: you can change the FX order quickly, internal routing allows for “shimmering”, etc.
I can recommand a couple of other devices that allow for quick pedal re-configuration, though.
As far as delays, there are indeed a whole world of references. Some questions to start guiding your choice:
- Do you need stereo or mono?
- Do you need MIDI sync? Tap-tempo?
- Do you prefer pristine, digital repetitions or more organic, darker ones?
