DT2 + Roland Aira T-8

Hey everyone.
I am considering getting a T8 cause it looks like fun and i love the acid bass synth.

Does anyone here use this combo?
If so please helop me figure something out.
While i was considering how i would use it i wondered if i would theoretically be able to access all 7 voices of the T-8 and sequence them using 7 tracks of the DT2?
Not that i would use 7 tracks but can see me using 2-3 , like bass synth +hihats or something like this.

Are the voices of the T8 then accesible via individual midi or how would you set it up?

I have both and have sequenced the T-8 from the DT. Not sure about the number combo but it should work.

A thing to note though. The t8’s hats don’t choke when sequenced externally. For me, part of the magic of the T-8 is the interpay of the hats.

So I just sample the sequences into the DT rather than sequence the T-8 from the DT. If that makes sense.

I hear ya. Thank you!

Hmm i understand what you mean.

Could i use one track of the DT2 in order to drive the Bass synth of the T8 only
using a DT2 sequence but simultaneously programm and play around with the T8 sequencer while the whole project is playing? (for example in order to make nice choke hihat patterns)?

Now that i think of it i somehow cant digest the fact that the DT2 does not have an easy way to choke Tracks with each other i.e make choke groups

That should be possible. Actually that’s a great idea.

About the only way to choke the hats is to sample them individually into the DT and play them on one track. That might actually be cool.

The T8 has a killer kick drum I sample! Snares too!

All those little Compact Airas are great sample material

Be aware that the parameters of the T-8 are inexplicably not able to be controlled via MIDI.

Something they fixed with the S1

From my reading, you have two MIDI Channels : one for the rhythm section and one for the bass.

I guess there’s nothing stopping you using multiple Digitakt tracks to address the same rhythm midi channel, each set to a different note, to split the different drum sound separate tracks. Good for muting etc.

Thanks, good to know.

In this case i dont mind. My biggest wish would be to do wha i asked i.e triggering them from the DT2.

The reason why i want this synth is for the tactile and hands on feel -tweaking

No matter how much i love my DT2 when i am tweakig any synth i own in real time lets me realise
that Knobs on a synth are somehow more immediate than tweaking the DT.
I find the DT encoders to be-to feel a bit „laggy“ and i also feel i have to do much more rotation to achieve what i can do easy peasy with a little move on any synth.
Kinda like comparing an analog Volume knob to a Digital encoder one. Both work but the feel is completely different

Than sound very intriguing. I think i will go for it .

Thank you!

I know. I own the S1 and its impressive how much you can do with it. And it sounds like a real size Synth.
This „on the same track HiHats“ though possible, i am not a DT „Power User“ meaning i find these solutions nice to have but dont feel like using them. Same goes for Glide. I watched videos on it and was so relieved to find out the DT2 has Portamento already.

I watched the Lfo trickery for DT1 and i almost fell asleep cause i was overwhelmed by the information ( ok it was late at night also).
I was like „I need a physical 303 …NOWWWW“
