DT2 Kit Creation Workflow With Transfer

I’m hoping for some help streamlining my kit creation workflow. The goal is to make it as simple as possible with as few steps as possible while staying organized. What do you think about this process?

  1. Create or obtain 8-16 samples suited for DT2.
I use XLN XO to select a set of samples, apply any post processing needed including normalization in the plugin and export to an empty folder on my PC.

  2. As the first transfer of the day, use Transfer to ferry the files to DT2. Then delete or cut the files and paste in another folder on your computer for posterity.

  3. Navigate to your DT2 drive (not Transfer) and rename the folder called transfers-[TODAY’S DATE] to the kit name you want.

  4. Decide which bank you want them and load to project.

  5. One by one, fill the trigs of an empty pattern with the samples to make sounds and save the kit.

  6. Save and name the kit.

Voila! Now tell this noob how it’s done…

Slight variation on steps 4. and 5.

  1. Load the samples, in the order you want to see them on the tracks, to sample slots A001 to A016.

  2. Open a new pattern and find the trigs are already set up for you.

Saves a lot of back-and-forth with encoder D on the SRC page.

Thanks, that should speed up the process greatly! Is it repeatable? Say that I do it for one kit and then want to create another kit. Don’t I need to free up those A01-A16 slots first?

On “automating naming and numbering presets/sounds”, is this intended for previously unnamed samples, meaning DT recordings?

That’s not about naming samples, it’s about naming presets. The preset name shows briefly as you switch tracks (besides being in the preset pool list).

Gotcha :+1:

Yes, free up those slots by unloading the samples (Func + Samples, project ram, right menu).

I’m worrying it will be destructive but don’t have all of the flow chart internalized. Will the previous kit remain?

I have saved a kit that is blank, so I upload that kit first and then all is free to load the actual samples and create a new kit

Neat!

I would have thought, since you’re saving a kit that’s independent of the project, that the previous kit would remain untouched.

But now you’ve got me doubting myself, I’m not sure.

I noticed that as long as the samples come in the right order, it’s easy to keep track when assigning samples. It’s not yet clear to me how to line up multiple kits worth of samples in my PC so that they enter Transfer in the right order. Any tips?

Unless you save it as a kit after messing up with the samples the kit will always remain the same

Ok, let’s see… The kit stays the same as it’s referencing the drive and not the pool? And the pool governs the sample banks per project and that’s why it’s nondestructive to remove A01-A16. Did I get it right?
