DT/DN/AH/PEAK Setup advice please : )

Hey elektrik legends :smile:

I have the following setup:
Digitakt
Digitone
Heat MK2
Novation Peak

Wondering on my best way to setup these devices?
Currently I use Digitakt to sequence the Peak, ez. I connect my midi keyboard to Digitakt midi in.
I sync Digitakt with Digitone sequencer over midi.
Not sure where to put the analog heat in the chain, maybe after Digitakt > before the Digitone.
That would some nice saturation to Digitakt drums, but can I keep the sync if I do this?
I’ve had the Digitakt for a while and totally love this thing, but quite new to multiple boxs setup.

:wink:

My setup would be (If you don’t care for stereo right now - you need a mixer imho!)

Midi (sequence perhaps ALL on the Digitakt and only set the voices on the other two boxes for this)
digitakt out -> digitone in
digitone through -> peak

Audio (you need a mixer, dude - except you want to use it as live set, because clubs are mono.)
Peak out -> digitakt in
digitakt out -> digitone in
digitone out -> heat
i would put the heat with this setup on the end of the chain and use it as performance tool, and to beef up the whole thing

Notice, the digitakt samples and monitors only in mono. Output of the digitakt is stereo, Input of the Digitone is Stereo (or configurable).
You could also put the peak and the digitakt as mono into the digitone and pan there both into center.

edit: if you feel lucky: consider ditch the digitakt for an octatrack.
benefit: mixer built in :wink:
that could be:

midi: octatrack -> digitone -> peak
audio: digitone -> OT (A/B), peak -> OT (C/D), OT -> Heat
or
audio: peak -> digitone -> octatrack (a/b), ot cue out -> heat in, heat out -> ot (c/d).
you could use the heat as send/return fx.

benefit: you exchange the digitakt thing with something that is a bit more than a digitakt, and don’t need to check out an proper mixer, because you have it then for such small setups.

My thoughts on your setup:

I would sequence Peak from the DN as this gives you 8 note polyphony per Midi track instead of 4 on the DT - Peak is 8 note polyphonic.

For the setup I’d do this:

Midi keyboard to DN Midi In
DN Midi out to Peak Midi in
Peak Midi Thru to DT Midi in
DT Midi out to Heat Midi in.

Set keyboard to DN Autochannel and have DN send Clock Send and Prog CH Send ticked.
Have DT set to Clock Recieve and Send.
Set Heat to receive clock.

A small mixer would really help here too.

I have a little Mackie 802 and it’s perfect for your gear. Three stereo ins for DT, DN and Peak and the mixer out to the input of Heat.

amazing reply, thank you gekkonier.

I tried an OT at a mates place and found it a bit overwhelming, DT is just fun to use.
was actually just thinking about a small analog mixer.
could run everything on its own channel and use the heat as an aux effect for more control.

I guess the other way would be to run in a DAW for way more routing options,

Thanks.

I’m gonna give this setup a try and see how it goes.
Having the keyboard into the Digitone actually makes way more sense, thanks heaps.
