DSP56300 emulator

They use the Coldfire 5206e for the operating system as well though, so they’d also need to emulate that too.

Trivial.

I just handed my MD to Dean at TechLand on the high street and he should have the entire binary ported over by 15:30 today, along with a new screen for iPhone 12promax.

They’ve already fully reverse engineered the 56303, so on the synthesis side it’s just a matter of getting the firmware to boot. Perhaps you’ve noticed the pace of their releases has increased over time because a lot of the foundational work is already done and the microcontrollers are simple to reverse compared to the DSP.

I think they could get away with emulating the synthesis side and letting the sequencing and automation be handled in the DAW without upsetting anyone, although if they were able to emulate the uC and load the sequencer firmware that would be a sensation.

I’d be upset. Synthesis and sequencing needs to be spot on.

Is this a bad time to tell you I sometimes sequence my Elektron gear with other MIDI sources?

Sacrilege. No slide no dice.

I have a DP4 and a Nord Mod G2 but it would be awesome to have those 2 in VST !

Wonderful! I would love similar skins for the other ones as well (Nodal Red is already covered).

If there’s enough interest, I may create skins for the other ones. It would be really cool if I could complete skins for all models with the same style, but drawing from the aesthetic of the original looks!

Really digging your work with these! If you managed to make one for OsTirus I’d be super interested, but I appreciate that’s a rather complex one to tackle!

Same same. My DP4 's panel hardware is starting to give out and running the G2 software requires keeping an old Windows computer ons tandby, so I’m not making great use of either of them.

Anyone who’s interested in DSP stuff should really read the guide written by Ensoniq engineers on the design of the ESP2 chip. It was years ahead of its time, and a very unusual case where the chip was designed to fit the product rather than the other way around. So it has many features specific to audio rather than general DSP. I’m thrilled to see that US are working on it.

The team already published a teaser photo of the Supernova 2 plugin alongside the existing ones. It’s very close I reckon.

The dp/4 has already been released as a plugin and it’s fantastic.

Isn’t that just the phaser ? Not emulating the 4 processors etc etc , running the original rom / os system ?

Can you share it? I’m unabl;e to find it anywhere.

Just found it, but it’s on the VIP channel from Bax (one of the admins) on 11/01/2026, 11:47 pm.

Since it’s on VIP, possibly best I don’t post if, but if you’re on there - you might be able to find it. They’re calling it Blue Giant II.

No it hasn’t.

Yes it has. The phaser model which is what a ton of people use it for is a plugin.

i think its been written in native win/mac code , its not the actual cpu of the dp4 being emulated and running the hardware OS …
so they may claim its accurate but im not sure its running the actual code from the dp4 hardware… as the other emulations are from usual suspects.

tbf - its probably a lot more efficient …
but - i might be wrong… it does claim to be ‘sample accurate’ … and can see they credit the writers of the algorithms used on the hardware too…but they may have re-implemented those algorithms within windows/apple OS .
I have neither - so i mostly judge something on ‘if it sounds good to me’ … not 'if its identicle to the hardware which ive never used ’ … but thats just me.

That’s the thing. I love these plugins but they take a lot of cpu. So I typically sample Osiris since it hits the silicone Mac pretty hard.

So not sure how efficient an emulation of the effects box would be. I can run countless instances of the phaser with no problem and it sounds quite good.

Maybe they will optimize it if they make an emulation, who knows.

The phaser sounds the same. At least enough for one of my buddies to finally sell his. Mainly because he just used the phaser and these units are super expensive on the used market.
