DSP56300 emulator

nice, I hadn’t seen this was being released.

I’ve made so many samples with Xenia and OsiTirus, love them, feels crazy to have 1:1 software.

this would be amazing.

What patches are you using for Xenia? I am making a lot of samples as well with osirus.

I’ve been making my own. I found some old ones somewhere as well which I edited a few, can’t recall where but it wasn’t from a deep search.

Just checked this one out, it’s very cool, I don’t think I’ll use it in addition to the other 2 I use, they’re deep enough.

Nord drum 2 would be great

It’s…plausible, for both versions of the Modular, as Clavia’s design was said to be very clean. The way I heard it from Rob Hordijk, who had a close relationship with Clavia, was that the first Nord Modular was almost identical to the Nord Lead 2 other than in the panel, the extra MIDI port, and the inputs. Likewise the NM G2 was basically the same platform as the Nord Lead 3, and the Lead 3 architecture was built within the modular environment. So adjusting the existing Nord lead emulator to fit the modular firmwares may not be a big amount of extra engineering work.

A bigger challenge in some ways is the editing software, because those are 32 bit applications that need realtime bidirectional feedback from the synth (though not too advanced, eg vu metering and on-off lighting for logic circuits rather than waveform displays). You can’t even run the editor on a modern Mac, needs a virtualized Windows machine. If they overcome this hurdle they’ll get donations from every owner of a hw NM as well as people who never got the chance to play one.

I’m a huge fan of The Usual Suspects/dsp56300 stuff and very excited for the recent release of the JP-8000 emulation, JE-8086. I thought people here might like their stuff too. Have you tried any of them?

I was kinda wishing the UI was more modern looking instead of the skeuomorphic aesthetic, so I just created a new skin the way I like it. I just posted the below in the official Discord channel but am dropping it here too. Hope you like it!

I’m a graphic designer and synth lover. I designed the skin in the way I would like it to be and would like to share it with you all. There are many good looking skeuomorphic (lots of textures, shadows, and 3D effects to mimic real objects) skins available already, so I took a different approach and made it more simple and minimal while paying homage to the original design. To me this is easier to use and understand what’s going on with a contemporary aesthetic.

I have checked everything works as it should by myself as much as possible but if you find anything strange or not working, please let me know. It seems like the dropdown menus are hardcoded and I couldn’t access them to stylise to match the design unfortunately, so hopefully the Usual Suspects team will update it to allow users to stylise them the way they like in the future.

Download: minimalJE β€” Skin for JE-8086 (The Usual Suspects)

Enjoy!

EDIT (19 Jan 2026): Updated to v1.1 with minor improvements. Download link changed from Google Drive to Gumroad - still completely free, but small contributions are greatly appreciated to support future development. Download via Gumroad to receive notifications for future updates!

Nice! Well done!

Very nice! I haven’t installed the JP emulator yet but this is encouraging me to do so. I hate skeuomorphic plugin interfaces, for every one that is done well there are 99 that just look like ass. This keeps the vibe without sacrificing visual clarity.

Thanks! Very nice to hear.

Yeah, not all of them are bad, but when a β€œvintage” themed plug-in UI has scratches, dents or discoloration, it really puts me off haha

mmm monomachine - will be a year or so away. So why elektron? why not get ahead of it all and make some $$$?

US are dropping heavy hints that Supernova II is one of the next to drop. I still use a SNII in my home studio, so having a plug-in in-case of (inevitable?) failure, or just to make things easier in terms of connecting stuff, would be great.

The list is here , with those marked β€˜development’ are presumably most advanced

What, no Fizmo?? :frowning:

probably worth visiting the discord server to chat about other synths…
all ive done is linked to a website… i’m not involved…

I do occasionally but discord is not my friend(I might be too old or not tech savvy)

Ensoniq DP/4, yes please that would be amazing.

Looking at the blog and things marked as β€˜Development’, if the Novation SuperNova II and Ensoniq DP/4 both get released, I’m done. Totally punching out. I couldn’t possibly expect anything more. Absolute mic drop for me.

Nord Modular would be amazing too, but a lot of complexity to overcome in order to run the editing software. I wouldn’t expect it. But who knows, I’d have said the Virus Ti was probably unlikely too a few years ago, but here we are.

That’sa. good point. the MachineDrum uses a 56303 which should now be trivial to port. The MNM uses a later model, but still in the 56k chip family.

I’ve never managed to get my hands on a Supernova and have always wanted to try it out. Exciting times.
