DSP Reboot: PlayStation 1 - 4 Track EP only with PS1 bootup jingle

Here is DSP Reboot
A series of EPs made only with video game console jingles!

The first one, is of course, based on PS1.
A 4 Track EP made only with the PS1 start up sound.

Which console should I sample next?

Digitakt project files, EP and its multitrack recordings can be purchased from here:
Bandcamp - Gumroad

The download includes;

  • Digitakt Project file (Compatible with Digitakt II)
  • Multitrack recordings of the EP
  • 4 Track EP

Side story:
I have been sitting on this project for a long time now. I had it ready and was about to release just when the ‘Thomann Digitakt out of production’ emails and rumours appeared. It sounded like a legit office fire to me. Decided to pause the release and see whats krakin.

Here we are today and Digitakt II is out in the wild. Bought one at launch, very good upgrade to already a great machine! There are a lot of things i would wish it did more, as mentioned on the forums… I thought to reshoot the EP performance again with it. When I uploaded the Project file to DT2, i realised that it did not ‘sound’ exactly the same. Especially the first tracks kick due to LFO Pitch settings, and few other things. Tweaked them to sound as close as possible, mainly because of the bit reduction fx n stuff. The differences were not breaking, just some tweaks and of you go i guess.

Then I noticed Overbridge is not ready yet, which the original recording had multitracks and the video had gfx… Then yea, i just decided to release DSP Reboot as it was, without DT2.

Looking back, with the limitation of DSP Reboot idea, I could continue to do the series on DT1 - Have Sega Saturn in mind next! I guess I could change to DT2 if it gets Overbridge or something like the Digitone style Poly Track Allocation, would be very cool for this! Lets see!

GameBoy would be an obvious one (du-dinggg!!!)

The Dreamcast startup and GameCube menu would be great chords for jungle.

This is excellent, man!

Yeah, this is pretty great. You should definitely continue the project as time allows.

Remember the startup for the Sega master system? Fun, and also a bit distinctive.

Thanks yea, working on the next release now, it’s actually very fun doing this.

Sega Master system!! That start up sound I think is the original SEE-GAA boot up sound. I mean, it has the harmonics of SEE-GAA but not the actual sample :)) Very cool stuff! Thanks for pointing this out!

The GameCube jingle slaps!

Are you sticking with doing it on DT1?
I kind of like that this great EP was made with DT1, it feels like really good anti-gas medicine!
And that you can already do a lot with a DT OG!

Fantastic work as always!

Right, that sounds about correct. Interestingly the version for Japan’s domestic market had a very different, full musical intro (cued in the link):

more random

I think the most stand-out memory I have of the master system is when I discovered that if you powered on the system with no game installed you could access a hidden game that the programmers built into the console bios, it was like some kind of maze or snake type game. I mean it’s not like it was street fighter but when I was a kid, that shit was wild.

add: I found a picture of the hidden “snail” game, there’s some demos on youtube but it’s not that exciting.

Anyway, keep up the nice work, looking forward to more.
